Sherrie Deets

August 8, 1955 - July 13, 2019

Sherrie Winters Deets, 63, of Silsbee, went home to be in the loving arms of Christ, her Savior, Saturday, July 13, 2019. She was born on August 8, 1955, in Woodville, to Maude Evelyn Poindexter Winters and George Thomas Winters.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, E.A. Deets; children, Euger Deets, Jr. and his wife, Brooke, of Orange; Evelyn Smith and her husband, Sheldon, of Silsbee; and Troy Landry of Jacksonville, North Carolina; honorary sons, Gerard Janetschek of Germany and Donald Osei and his wife, Malia, of Livingston; grandchildren, Naomi, Destiny, Tawny, Emma, Chase, Stella, Caden, Soraya, and Keegan; great-grandchild, Massiah; siblings, Brenda Kaplan and her husband, Barry, of Houston; Pam Broom of Woodville; and Tommy Winters and his wife, Mary and Mark Winters, all both of Colmesneil; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Sherrie is preceded in death by her parents; and a grandchild.

Sherrie had many roles in her life: daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, counselor, teacher, traveler, and inspiration to others how to live a life dedicated to Christ. She had a BA and MA in education from Stephen F. Austin University and for thirty-two years was a teacher, counselor, and diagnostician who was dedicated to her students. Every person who had her as a teacher would say that she was their favorite teacher.

Sherrie was a person who put her family first; she went to as many programs, award ceremonies, games, and activities as she could. Her house was filled with pictures of family and loved ones. She loved to have family and loved ones in her house for game nights, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and any other excuse to have company.

What distinguished Sherrie was her faith and commitment to Christ. That was shown as she fought the disease that would take her life. Sherrie remained joyful, faithful, and at peace throughout her illness and shared the gospel through her words and actions. Her grace, dignity and courage were an inspiration to those around her. A faithful member of Pinecrest Baptist, she taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir for many years. She went on many mission trips with her church to New Mexico, Indiana, West Virginia, and Louisiana.

Sherrie loved to travel with her husband and family. She has visited Israel, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, France, England, Canada, The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and thirty-five of the fifty states. Her husband will be completing visits to the last fifteen states in her memory.

May her memory be a blessing.

A gathering of Sherrie’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with her memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Pinecrest Baptist Church, 5660 FM 1122, Silsbee, under the direction of Broussard’s, Silsbee. Her committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
