Sidney Wayne Calame

Sidney Wayne Calame, 88, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, March 8, 2017. He was born on November 1, 1928, in Levelland, Texas, to Ruby Lee Allen Calame and Ruby Augustus Calame.

Sidney enjoyed playing basketball at Texas A&M University and went on to receive his bachelors and masters from Sam Houston State University. He started at Pietzch Elementary, then Cheek Elementary, Tyrrell Park Elementary, Bingman Elementary, and Amelia Elementary. Sidney begin teaching science and coaching, but spent most of his career as a principal. He retired from South Park Independent School District/ Beaumont Independent School District after forty years of service. Sidney was a cowboy, loved athletics, and enjoyed hunting and woodworking. He also loved to tell colorful and humorous stories and he really loved the Western Channel and John Wayne movies.

Survivors include his sons, Danny Calame and his wife, Cathy, of Nederland and Kyle Calame of Beaumont; most special friend, Delores “Dody” Breaux (Grand Dody); grandchildren, Cody Calame and his wife, Taylor, Stephanie Calame Huebel and her husband, Jeff, Bryan Calame and his girlfriend, Jarrae Bell, and Britt Valenta and his wife, Julie, Philip Valenta, and Lisa Valenta Thompson and her husband, Kevin; honorary grandson, Ryan Brady; great-grandchildren, Owen Thompson, Brady Calame, Corbin Calame, Lainey Calame, Jonah Huebel, Heath Huebel, Damian Valenta, and Titus Valenta.


He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dickie Jane Ramsey; brother, Franklin Calame; sister-in-law, Juanita DeJarnette.

A gathering of Mr. Calame’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 10, 2017, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Broussard’s, Nederland, with his interment following at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.
