Siegfried Stahl
Siegfried Stahl, 85, of Nederland, entered eternal rest on Monday, June 15, 2020, at Stonewood Senior Living, Orange. He was born May 10, 1935 in Riga, Latvia to Melitta Lutz Stahl and Leo Stahl.
Near the end of World War II, his family were German refugees and forced to leave Latvia. While en route to Germany, he was separated from his family. With the help of the Red Cross, his mother located him in Legde, Germany just west of Berlin where a wonderful family had been taking care of him. In 2009, he had the pleasure of showing us this little German village, and when we went to the city hall to look at maps, we unexpectedly met the granddaughter of the man who had helped him. She recalled the stories her grandfather told her about Siegfried. His mother reunited him with his family in Hannover, Germany.
In 1958, his sister arranged a date with Hildegard Fromm. They celebrated their engagement on May 16, 1958, and on December 13, 1958, they were united in marriage in Hannover, Germany. They had an adventurous spirit, and in August, 1962, they immigrated to the United States and settled in Nederland. They became naturalized U.S. citizens. Siegfried briefly worked in Alaska on an oil rig but eventually worked as a machinist at local refineries including BF Goodrich, Ameripol Synpol, and UnoCal.
There was nothing Siegfried couldn’t build or fix. He enjoyed spending time in his shop with his vast array of tools and machines building or repairing just about anything such as raised flower bed forms, tables, standing stools for the grandkids to reach the sink, china hutches for the grandkids to play tea, things for the Early Childhood Education program at church, and working on cars. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time working on his property and building a barndominium at his property in Spurger.
Siegfried had a big heart and helped others. He served on several boards and committees at Holy Cross Lutheran Church including the Board of Elders and the Board of Early Childhood Education. He would drive people to their doctors’ appointments, to the grocery store, and even to Fort Polk. If he wasn’t home, he might have been cleaning limbs off the roof for ladies at church or hanging pictures. And there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his grandchildren from driving to Ohio or Missouri to visit to attending sporting events and awards’ ceremonies.
Survivors include his children; Kevin Stahl and his wife, Dawn Robertson, of Beaumont; Kirk Stahl and his husband, Danny, of Denver, Colorado; and Kent Stahl and his wife, Colette, of Nederland; sister, Inge Schoon of Sande, Germany; brother, Georg Stahl of Hannover, Germany, the joys of his life, his grandchildren, Sophie Stahl Gutierez and her husband, Samuel, of Nederland; Kensey Stahl, Livia Stahl, and Landon Stahl; and not to forget his granddogs, Ginger; Migo; Nala; and Kelly.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Hildegard Stahl, parents, Leo and Melitta Stahl of Hannover, Germany; sisters, Livia Stahl of Cuxhaven, Germany, and Heidi Stahl of Riga, Latvia; and brother, Harald Stahl of Hannover, Germany.
A gathering of Mr. Stahl’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2020, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2711 Helena Avenue, Nederland. His interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches. Please observe social distancing guidelines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church Early Childhood Education, 2711 Helena Avenue, Nederland, Texas 77627.

We are so sorry to hear of Siggy's passing. We were good friends while we lived in Nederland and our children grew up together. Siggy and I had many projects together over the years and we had a lot of fun and good times working on them. We also sang in the church choir together for several years. We will always remember our visits to their home on Sunday afternoon and all the coffee and goodies Hilda would serve. I'm sure they are happy to be together now.
