Stella “Louise” Troy, 93, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, May 9, 2017.

Louise was born on March 11, 1924, in Thomas, West Virginia, the middle daughter of three girls, to Mable and Duncan Shaffer.

She moved with her family to Port Arthur in 1937 from Franklin, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur in 1941. Upon graduation from TJHS, Louise went to work for the Texas Company (now Texaco) in Port Arthur. After working for Durham Business College and then Jefferson County Judge Chester Young, she retired from the Texas Department of Human Resources in 1989. Louise was a long-time member of Beaumont Community Partners and especially active with The Rainbow Room for foster children.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Beaumont for fifty-nine years, where she served on numerous committees, taught Sunday school and was a proud member of the United Methodist Women. She also was an active member of Church Women United of Beaumont.

Louise is survived by her sister, Emogene Mayfield of Tyler; daughters, Sara Moon and her husband, Glen, of Kountze; and Sharon Marks of Kingwood; son, William Chesnut and his wife, Kelly O’Grady Chesnut, of Kingwood; grandchildren, William Richard, Amy Price, Leeann Enderle, Travis Moon, Chandler Chesnut, and Carson Chesnut; six great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mable and Duncan Shaffer; husband, Norman J. Troy, grandson, Lynn Richard; son-in-law, Greg Marks; and sister, Saralee Droegkamp.

A gathering of Mrs. Troy’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont, and from 10:00 a.m. until her funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, 701 Calder Avenue, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church. 701 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77701; or to The Rainbow Room, P.O. Box 5974, Beaumont, Texas 77726.
