Terry Ayres

July 16, 1953 - August 10, 2019

Terry Lynn Ayres, 66, of Buna, died Saturday, August 10, 2019, at Harbor Hospice of Beaumont. He was born on July 16, 1953, in Woodville, to Amanda (Snyder-Ayres) Small and Grady Ayres. He graduated from Silsbee High School in 1971 and married Sylvia Frazier on October 30, 1971.

It is hard to summarize a life with words, especially when that life had not spoken many himself. You will not read in the annals of history the words he had given in speeches, but his is characterized by God’s intentions for us all. Terry approached life with a servant’s attitude, worked hard, gave without regret or complaint, and prepared for this life and the one to come.

Terry met Sylvia on a blind date, fell in love, married, then moved to Houston, Texas where their daughter, Angelique Josette was born. They moved to Silsbee where their son, Joseph Stephen was born. Terry went to work for the Eastex Paper Mill in August 1973 and remained a loyal employee until retirement in January 2016.

Terry loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, his family, his church, and his friends. His interests included hunting, fishing, travelling, and entertaining at his home in Buna, Texas. Ahead of all else, Terry lived for his family. He was the grandfather of grandfathers. Paw-Paw suffered through the sweltering heat and late nights for every dance recital, every ball game, every pep rally, every awards ceremony, every birthday party, and would show up early them all. Terry gave, never took, and loved unconditionally.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia; one daughter, Angelique Goode and her husband, Marshall; two granddaughters, Megan and Mariah; two grandsons, Gavyn and Gabrian, of Lumberton; two brothers, Rex Ayres and his wife Sara, of Silsbee; Herbert Ayres and his wife, Sharon, of Village Mills, and sister, Diane Conkle, of Fannett.

Terry is preceded in death by his son, Joseph Stephen Ayres; brother, Jessie S. Ayres; mother, Amanda Small; and father, Grady Ayres.

A gathering of Mr. Ayres’ family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at Friendship Baptist Church, 39700 US 96 South, Buna. His interment will follow at Holland Cemetery, Kountze, under the direction of Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.

I am sorry for your loss. I will keep all of you in my prayers. I remember several years ago when me and my family came to visit that Terry took me and my family out in his boat.

Mrs. Sylvia and Angel, I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Terry was such a wonderful man, and I was proud to know him. I know Jospeh is already showing him all the good fishing spots in heaven. I can’t make it in for the services tomorrow, but know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers constantly.

The best neighbors anyone could ever ask for. We never heard much from Terry. Went to work. Went fishing. My 3 girls were constantly at their house. If it bothered Terry, we never heard about it. So many memories! The Ayres family will always have a special place in the pages of our yesterdays. Gone too quickly; but never forgotten. Love & hugs to Sylvia & family

I wouldn't take anything for the last memory that I have of Terry. We stopped by the day before he passed away. I stood there by his bed, held his hand and spoke to him but he pointed to his mouth, someone standing there said that his mouth was dry so he had it full of water or something. So when they told me that I mention how lucky he was to have water in his mouth cuz it's always my foot in mine. A big grin came across his face as big as he could smile without losing his liquid. From here on out when I think of Terry that's the picture that I will have of him. Smiles are precious memories.

Terry will be greatly missed. You could tell he loved the Lord, his family and outdoors! One of my best memories of Terry is the first time he saw me after my husband's death. His words were short and soft, "we're here". Terry's big heart will be a part of us forever. Continued prayers for Sylvia and family.
