Tommy Leon
Tommy Leon passed away at his residence on October 11, 2020 surrounded by his dogs. Tommy was born to J.L. “Blackie” and Virginia Leon on January 17, 1941, in Beaumont, Texas.
In Tommy’s teenage years he developed a passion for cars which lasted his whole life. He grew up on Easy Street near his Maw-Mee, who he was extremely close to. Tommy was a hard worker and had various jobs at a young age, usually involving garages and cars. Cars lead him to eventually driving ambulances.
He married his Valentine on February 14, 1966 which happened to be her 23rd birthday.
Tommy worked at DuPont Beaumont Works for forty-five years. He made life-long friends at DuPont and it was a highlight of his career. He was also a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan, much to the objection of his youngest daughter!
Tommy was known for his hobbies and pranks over the years. Cars were a mainstay in his life until his passing. Many weekends were spent at car shows.
On May 28, 1970 while winning West End Little League City Championship game, his wife Kaye was at St. Elizabeth giving birth to their daughter, Lexi. Lexi was always a fixture at the ballpark.
After coaching Little League and football for many years, he turned his attention to DJing. An avid music lover, he was often heard around the area DJing for local night spots, class reunions, and the Port Arthur Mardi Gras. His love of music never left, but other hobbies crept in.
After moving to China, he found his love of miniature horses and goats. This led to full size horses, especially palomino show horses. Every weekend was spent at a show. He even showed at the Houston Livestock Show.
After his daughter Lexi was diagnosed with cancer, her and her son moved in with Tommy and Kaye. Tommy was blessed to have his grandson in his life daily and relished in the fact that he got to watch Thomas play sports.
In his early 70’s the golf bug bit, hard. At his age he held his own with younger and experienced golfers at Bayou Din, his home away from home. And he had one hell of a drive, which he was often complimented on.
Cars were still a passion of his. He was often seen around town in a shocking yellow vette, or a candy apple red vette.
After they retired, Tommy and Kaye discovered the open road in their R.V. With each trip their bond intensified. And that lasted until his death.
Tommy ended his life with his Broussard’s family. This relationship began the day Jim Broussard hired him. Getting up at 5:00 a.m. to open Broussard’s was something he looked forward to. Tommy had a genuine gift for being compassionate, kind, and attentive to all his clients and extremely loyal to the Broussard family. He shared sincere friendships with fellow Broussard employees and bosses. This was one of the best times of his life.
Anyone who knew Tommy knew his love for his animals. He would have rescued a million animals, and according to Kaye, he almost did!
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Kaye Leon; brother, David Leon and his wife, Bobbie; brother-in-law, Mike Medley; son, Trent Leon and wife, Joetta; daughters, Cambie Leon Jenkins and Lexi Leon Jones; bonus daughter, Zorida Gonzales; grandchildren, Sean Leon, Hayli Jenkins, Trevor Leon, Winter Young, Thomas Jones, and guardian granddaughter, Clarissa Powers; six great-grandchildren, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Gina Medley.

A gathering of Mr. Leon’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 30, 2020, at Broussard’s, with his interment with Military Honors to follow at China Cemetery, China.
We would like to thank Broussard’s for taking care of the love of our life for the past two weeks. Especially James Rawlings, Lucas Bordages, Zorida Gonzales; and LeeAnn England.
