Velma Guinn Johnson

February 4, 1932 - July 30, 2020

Velma Guinn Johnson, 88, of Nederland died Thursday, July 30, 2020, at Community Retirement Home, Port Arthur. She was born on February 4, 1932, in Abbeville, Louisiana, to Therzille Luquette Lee and Harrison Taylor Lee. Velma was an Eastern Star for forty years and a member of First Baptist Church, Nederland, since 1957.

Survivors include her sons, Jimmy Dixon Guinn and his wife, Karen, of Nederland and Keith Edward Guinn and his wife, Traci, of Georgia; grandchildren, Rachel Dickson and Sara Longwell; great-grandson, Henry Robert Longwell; cousin, Margie Lee, of Port Arthur; and numerous extended family that she loved like her own.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Robert H. Guinn and William Johnson; brothers, Thomas; Kenneth; Mark; Sidney; Jack; Alton; Harry; and Milton Lee; and sisters, Annie Lee; Melba Brown; Ruth Gray; and Florence Doiron.

A gathering of Mrs. Johnson’s family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., with her funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Retirement Home, 3141 Procter Street, Port Arthur, TX 77642.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Paula Tallant and all of the staff at Community Retirement Home in Port Arthur for their special love and care they gave to Mrs. Johnson.

I have known Velma from the time she and her husband were members of Procter Street Baptist Church when it was located on Procter Street. My Dad , Dr. Autrey was pastor of Procter Street Baptist and Velma and my mother wee good friends. We loved Velma. So sorry for your loss.

Mrs Johnson lived on my block. She always spoke to Me and my husband when he would sit outside She also gave me a white rose bush. It has the sweetest smelling roses.
