Virgil James Roberts

Virgil J. Roberts, 99, of Beaumont, died Saturday, May 30, 2020, at Brookdale Dowlen Oaks, Beaumont. He was born November 27, 1920, to Belle Morris Roberts and Luther J. Roberts. He was Papaw and Uncle Virgil by all of his family and family of heart.

He was a combat veteran of World War II. Virgil worked at Magnolia Refinery, that became Mobiloil, retiring after forty-two years of service. He also taught machine shop at what is now LIT.

Virgil was an avid hunter and fisherman and was also a self-taught wood carver.

He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Nantz and her husband, William, of Beaumont; grandchildren, James Nantz, of Vidor; Angelia McLendon, of Houston; and Jarrod McLendon and his wife, Cindy, of Nederland; great-grandchildren, Jarec McLendon and Madison Dubois, both of Nederland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virgil is preceded in death by his wife, of seventy-eight years, Hazel Roberts; and daughter, Karen McLendon LeGros.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Brookdale Assisted Living and Texas Home Health Hospice. They cared for him like family. Also, a special thanks goes out to Beaumont Adult Medicine.

A graveside service for Mr. Roberts will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 5, 2020, at Magnolia Cemetery, 2291 Pine Street, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Please observe social distancing guidelines.
