Virginia “Ginger” Kay George

December 24, 1945 - April 4, 2017

Virginia “Ginger” Kay George, 71, of Lumberton, died Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial, Lufkin, while traveling in East Texas on an antiquing trip.  She was born on December 24, 1945, in Nocona, Texas, to Earline Oldham and James Dempsey.

Ginger and Tommie had their first date on December 2, 1972 and married nineteen days later, on December 21st.  They both became Christians in November of 1974.  Ginger has always had a very “large” personality and God immediately began using that after she was saved.   People have always been drawn to her and they confided in her – and she always loved helping people.  In 1990, as a 45-year-old high school dropout, Ginger decided to get an education so she could help people professionally to cope and deal with life’s problems. She graduated in 1998 with honors and a Master’s degree in Psychology – and she never failed to tell them about Jesus, the Great Physician.  Ginger retired in 2008 to focus on helping her granddaughter, Sarah, get an education; she will graduate with a Master’s in Psychology in 2017.  Ginger and Tommie moved to Lumberton in 2013 when he retired and they joined First Baptist Church of Kountze in May where they are currently members.

Survivors include her husband, Tommie George; daughter, Rhonda Castro of Dickinson; grandchildren, Sarah Marie Middaugh of Austin and Alex Castro of San Antonio; brother, Jimmy Lynn Dempsey and his wife, Martha, of Dallas; nephew, Mark Lynn Dempsey of McKinney, Texas; brother-in-law, Gary George and his wife, Patty, of Lumberton; and mother-in-law, Dorothy George of Lumberton.

She is preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law, Weldon Eugene George, of Lumberton.

A gathering of Mrs. George’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2017, with her funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Kountze, 100 West Monroe, Kountze. Her interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont, under the direction of  Broussard’s, Kountze.
