Dr. O.R. (Rudy) Allred, 91, of Beaumont, Texas passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024. He was born to Eliza and Nellie Cowart Allred on September 1, 1932, in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He grew up in Groves, Texas, graduating from Port Neches-Groves High School. Rudy came to Beaumont in 1957 after graduating from the University of Texas Dental School-Houston. He practiced dentistry there from 1957 until 1998. He was always active in the Southeast Texas Dental Society where he served as President and Past President. He was involved with many other dental associations as well, becoming a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentist and Fellowship in the American College of Dentistry. In 1986 he was voted the Dentist of the Year. Additionally, he served on the staff of St Elizabeth Hospital for over 45 years. Glenn Willard Mikko, 78, of Beaumont, died Saturday, March 23, 2024. He was born on April 25, 1945, in Melvindale, Michigan to Hilda Evelyn Olson and Willard Mikko. Glenn was an avid hunter and he loved fishing. He loved and supported the Meals on Wheels program as a delivery driver for many years. Glenn enjoyed going to church and fellowshipping with fellow believers. He secretly enjoyed the gardening and busy work that Wanda got him into over the years. Glenn loved spending time with his family, especially at the lake house or beach house at least once a year. Robert Christopher “Chris” Edson, 66, of Beaumont, died Thursday, March 21, 2024. He was born on September 5, 1957, in Beaumont, to Mamie White Edson and Edward Gilroy Edson, Jr. He is preceded in death by his parents. Acil Jerry Diffey, 78, of Lumberton, died Tuesday, March 19, 2024. Known as “Diffey” among his friends, colleagues, and extended family, Acil was born on July 14, 1945, to Mary Lee Bond Diffey and Elbert Lee Diffey, in Port Arthur. At age 4, his parents moved him and his siblings to Louisiana where he grew up farming and causing mayhem. This was shown in the number of vehicles he owned and rebuilt after he may or may not have damaged them first and by the constant question from his mother, “Acil Jerry! Son, what have you done now?”. Acil learned the trade of operating a dragline from his father which he went on to operate other heavy equipment throughout his career. Acil ultimately retired from TXDOT in 2007. Cynthia Christen “NuNu” Douglas, 69 of Beaumont, died Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. She was born on November 1, 1954, to Doris Marshall Bardwell and Karl Christen, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Survivors include her son, Robbie McLemore of Vidor; sister, Terri Cooley of Beaumont; sister-in-law, Jolene Cooley; brother-in-law, Tommy Knight; nieces and nephews, Brandee Wickland and her husband, Kevin, Tommy C. Johnny Hood, 67, of Beaumont, died Friday, March 15, 2024, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. She was born on December 28, 1956, to Marcelle Longmire Nelson and Ralph “Buck” Nelson, in Beaumont. Johnny loved her dogs and cats, NASCAR racing, especially #24 Jeff Gordon, and was always eager to get back to her rocking chair and front porch. Norma Ruth Herring Murphy, 94, of Beaumont, passed away late Tuesday afternoon on March 12, 2024. Norma was born on April 3, 1929, in Dallas, Texas, to the late Velma Clarke and Charles Herring. Barbara Y’Barbo Richard, 74, of Beaumont died Thursday, March 7, 2024. She was born on August 28, 1949, in Beaumont to Peggy Latiolais and Richard Y’Barbo, Sr. Barbara was a loving soul. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She especially loved her sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons. They were her life and treasured every moment with them. She also loved her time working EMS. It brought joy to her helping people. Barbara volunteered many years with the Labelle/Fannett Volunteer Fire Department which led her to the job she loved. Mickey Sundgren Lothrop, 94, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, March 6, 2024. She was born on January 17, 1930 in Beaumont to Helen Mazie Arceneaux and Clarence Cleveland. Mickey grew up in Beaumont and graduated from South Park High School in 1948. She attended Lamar University, earning a degree in Special Education and spent several years teaching at Hardin-Jefferson School District. She would go on to work as a dispatcher for Coca Cola and retire from there. Mickey’s parents loved the beach and the family spent many happy hours there. Her father built a small beach house known as The Red Snapper. Mickey’s sister Maureen remembered the Red Snapper was lost to a hurricane. Gerard (Jerry) Forcier, 82, of Lumberton, Texas died Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family after a long struggle with heart failure. Jerry was born in Bristol, Connecticut on January 1st, 1942, to Gerard A. Forcier and Marie Goulet Forcier. He was the 1st baby born that year in Bristol, as well as the 1st generation American born to his Canadian immigrant parents. He grew up in Connecticut, but resided in Beaumont and Lumberton, Texas the majority of his adult life. In his early twenties while serving in the U.S. Army at Camp Elmer in Edison, New Jersey, he asked a pretty girl named Bette if he could share some of her french fries to which she agreed. She was born on April 21, 1953, to Lizzie “Mae” Penry Isbell and George Washington “Dood” Isbell, in Beaumont. Kaye graduated from French High School in 1971 and from Sam Houston State University in 1974. She retired from the Government, working in Customs and then the DEA for many years. She was also a member of Wesley Methodist Church in Beaumont. Kaye deeply loved her family, was a soccer enthusiast, avid reader, and loved to play Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit. Emma Jean Jakobeit, 88, of Lumberton, died Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Mill Creek Skilled Nursing Facility, Silsbee, Texas. She was born on May 19, 1935, to Clemence Breaux Sheppard and George William Sheppard, in Orange, Texas. Jean, as a young mother attended classes to earn her certification to be a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). She often spoke of her experiences of her first job working in Hotel Dieu Hospital in downtown Beaumont, Texas. This Hospital was built and operated by the Catholic Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. After some training from the Sisters and Doctors of the Hospital she went on to work in several Nursing Homes in Hardin and Jefferson County. Jean was also involved in early Home Health Care. She was born on June 14, 1928, to Alberta Moore Hensley and Elmer Trenton Hensley, in Houston. Theresa’s family later relocated to Beaumont where she attended St. Anthony High School. She met her beloved husband, Russell John Folse, Sr., on a blind date and it was love at first sight for both of them. Larry Nelson Windham, 77, of Beaumont, died Saturday, February 24, 2024. He was born on November 17, 1946, in Beaumont to Bessie Lee Clark and Julius Alton “Slim” Windham. How does one write about the life of the woman that raised them when it will be told through a single person’s perspective? Impossible, so multiple hands will contribute to this missive. Ruth Law Brickley – a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, companion and friend – was a capable, complex and talented woman. Having moved from her birth home and family in Clearfield, Pennsylvania to Texas with her young children and husband, she coped as best she could, finding solace in her faith. Her family grew to six children: Bonnie, Mary Clare, Bobby, Bootsie, Eric and Bridget. She bent but held when her husband, Harold, and both sons left before her.
