Shirley LeMaire Brown, 87, of China, died Monday, April 15, 2024, at Focused Care at Summer Place, Beaumont. She was born on January 1, 1937, to Lorance Marie Thibodeaux Leger and Louis Paul Leger, in China. Charles “Charlie” Herbert Goodness, Sr., 84, of Sugar Land, died on April 15, 2024, at Harbor Hospice following a kidney cancer battle. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Kathryn Phipps Goodness and Charles Harold Edward Goodness. Charlie was raised primarily by his mother and was a mischievous child. He grew up in Shreveport and graduated from Byrd High School. He was a circulation auditor for ABC Circulation, traveling the nation and surrounding countries, auditing newspapers and periodicals. He married Linda Jeanis (deceased) in 1962, with whom he had three children, Theresa, Charles, Jr. “Chuck”, and Kelly. He had a unique style, from socks that started conversations to the finest Hawaiian shirts. Vernon Pierce, 69, of Beaumont, died Sunday, April 14, 2024. On August 3, 1954, Hugh Vernon Pierce and Patricia Parker Pierce welcomed Hugh Vernon Pierce, Jr. to the family. While not the first grandson, and not even the first grandchild, he was quickly designated his Grandmother Pierce’s favorite. That was according to HER. Vernon loved to tell that when the family gathered and Grandmother Pierce served her famous chocolate pie, she would produce one for the family and a second “for Vernon.” And NO one challenged her on that. When his mother would seemingly receive preferential treatment, her justification was always, “I bore Vernon.” Accurate. In the next 6 years, two siblings were welcomed. Andy Bogan, 61, of Beaumont, died Sunday, April 14, 2024. He was born May 2, 1962, in Beaumont, to Joe Bogan and Roz Carter. Andy graduated from Forest Park High School in 1981. In the 80s, Andy owned and operated LaBoucherie in Lake Charles. He then worked in sales and marketing for Del Papa Distributing and retired after 31 years of service. Andy never met a stranger. Thomas “Tom” Roy Lombardo was born on March 14, 1943, and passed away on April 13, 2024, surrounded by his wife, Michele Lombardo and his children, Rachel Wallace, Steven Lombardo, and Jamie Lombardo. James “Jim” Larkin, Jr., 72, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. He was born on May 26, 1951, in Hammond, Indiana, to Margaret Charlene Nihiser Larkin and James E. Larkin, Sr. Jim grew up in East Chicago, Indiana and was a proud member of the 1970 Roosevelt HS Indiana State championship basketball team. Betty Jean Nicholas, 94, of Webster, formerly of Beaumont, died Wednesday, April 3, 2024. She was born on August 5, 1929, in Beaumont to Berneice Stewart and Leo Stevens. Betty graduated from South Park High School in 1947. She was employed by various companies in Beaumont including Phoenix Furniture and Pitney Bowes. Betty went on to the retire from the City of Beaumont, Public Works. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Beaumont and was a proud member of Fidelis Sunday school class. She was a lifelong resident of Beaumont until she moved to Webster five years ago to be closer to family members. Betty was a very loving and caring person. Deborah Lee (Debbie) Myers passed away April 1, 2024, at the age of 73. She was born May 23, 1950, to Charles H. and Gretta N. Donaldson, in Toledo, Ohio.  Debbie trained as a nurse and attended the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio. However, she never practiced nursing, choosing to stay home and raise a family. She loved reading, crafting, camping, gardening, and spending time outdoors enjoying the beauty of nature.  Debbie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Vern, daughter Elisabeth, and brother David. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and her son Matthew. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her passing will be memorialized at a private gathering of closest family and friends. Stockholm, PhD (July 18, 1939 – March 30, 2024), former State Trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety, and member of the US Marine Corps Reserves, was a 1957 graduate of French High School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Lamar State University and later obtained his Masters’ and PhD from Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas. Dr. O.R. (Rudy) Allred, 91, of Beaumont, Texas passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024. He was born to Eliza and Nellie Cowart Allred on September 1, 1932, in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He grew up in Groves, Texas, graduating from Port Neches-Groves High School. Rudy came to Beaumont in 1957 after graduating from the University of Texas Dental School-Houston. He practiced dentistry there from 1957 until 1998. He was always active in the Southeast Texas Dental Society where he served as President and Past President. Acil Jerry Diffey, 78, of Lumberton, died Tuesday, March 19, 2024. Known as “Diffey” among his friends, colleagues, and extended family, Acil was born on July 14, 1945, to Mary Lee Bond Diffey and Elbert Lee Diffey, in Port Arthur. At age 4, his parents moved him and his siblings to Louisiana where he grew up farming and causing mayhem. This was shown in the number of vehicles he owned and rebuilt after he may or may not have damaged them first and by the constant question from his mother, “Acil Jerry! Son, what have you done now?”. Acil learned the trade of operating a dragline from his father which he went on to operate other heavy equipment throughout his career. Acil ultimately retired from TXDOT in 2007. Barbara Y’Barbo Richard, 74, of Beaumont died Thursday, March 7, 2024. She was born on August 28, 1949, in Beaumont to Peggy Latiolais and Richard Y’Barbo, Sr. Barbara was a loving soul. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She especially loved her sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons. They were her life and treasured every moment with them. She also loved her time working EMS. It brought joy to her helping people. Barbara volunteered many years with the Labelle/Fannett Volunteer Fire Department which led her to the job she loved. She retired from the City of Port Arthur Fire and EMS dispatch after fifteen years. She loved talking to the officers and firefighters, she was MawMaw to them all. Bonnie Joann Vessel, 72, of Beaumont, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, March 7, 2024. She was born on December 12, 1951, in Beaumont, Texas, to Joanna Henley Schreve and Burke Anthony Schreve. Survivors include: her daughter, Amanda Foust, a BISD 1st Grade Teacher, Curriculum Writer, and Mentor; Son-in-Law, Matt Foust, a BISD Coach; Bonnie’s Son, J. Anthony Vessel, Partner and Mediator at Law Offices of Marc Whitehead & Associates; and his wife Heidi Vessel, Strategic Account Manager of Mitratech and Yoga Instructor; and grandchildren, Nicholas Foust, 11th grade high honor student at Monsignor Kelly High Catholic High School, and Christopher Foust 6th grade high honor student St. Anne Catholic School; and her cousins, Randy Foret; Sandy Courts; Teresa Fagg; Linda Martin.
