Luther Gary Simmons, 68, of Beaumont, died Thursday, April 11, 2024. He was born on March 5, 1956, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Theda Marie Conley and Luther Ellis Simmons. Survivors include his wife of forty-six years, Elizabeth Simmons; and children, Tricia Contreras and her husband, Frank, Jr.; Devon Kolander and her husband, Kris; and Austin Simmons. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Mr. Simmons may be made to an organization of one’s choice. Craig Dentler Pemberton, 74, of Sour Lake, died Tuesday, April 9, 2024. He was born December 14, 1949 in Houston, Texas, to Eloise Dentler and Charles Pemberton. Neighborhood mischief, summer little- league, vacations at his grandmother’s bay house, countless hunting trips with his dad and later with his two boys provided memories for a lifetime. Craig’s family moved to Beaumont, Texas when he was young. He often shared memories of growing up on 21st Street – this is also where he met his good friend, Kyle Yeates, who introduced him to baseball. Wanda Simmons Funchess, 90, of Beaumont, died Monday, April 8, 2024. She was born on December 9, 1933, in Ozona, Texas, to Elsie Jewel Saunders and Thomas Maurice Simmons. Wanda was raised in the small town of Junction, Texas. In her teen years, she worked at the local Soda Fountain/Pharmacy. This is where, after graduating high school, she met her future husband, Hank Funchess. Hank was attending Texas A & M and was in Junction for summer school. Upon seeing Wanda, even before meeting her, he told his fellow classmates that she was his girl. She wondered why no other boys came over to talk to her. They were married in August 1954. Kathleen Long Pearson, 87, formerly of Beaumont, Texas, died Sunday, April 7, 2024, in Lone Tree, Colorado. Kathleen was born in Beaumont, Texas, March 17, 1937, and resided there until 2010, when she moved to Colorado to be closer to Erik and Karl. She graduated from South Park High School in 1955, where she was a proud Greenie, and attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. Richard (Dick) Osborn, 95, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away April 1, 2024. Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, on October 22, 1928, to Russell Osborn, Sr., and Olive (McCue) Osborn, Richard was the youngest of three brothers. A US Army World War II veteran, Richard was a devoted husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He was a devout Catholic and always made it to mass no matter where he was. He was a kind, gentle, giving man that helped others in any way he could. Evangeline John George, age 93, passed away from earthly life on March 27, 2024. Born in Beaumont, Texas on May 11, 1930, to James and Rose Katherine George, Evangeline (Van) impacted the lives of many people. Van dedicated her entire life to helping others in her community whether they were family, friends, or complete strangers. Van graduated from Beaumont High School in 1948. After graduation she attended Lamar College, and later graduated from the University of Houston in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Floyd Frederick Flanagan, 93, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, March 27, 2024. He was born on December 20, 1930, in Beaumont, to Ruby Rhode and John Flanagan. Floyd attended Beaumont High School where he was a standout athlete in tennis, basketball, and baseball. He was selected to play on the Beaumont all-city baseball team. Floyd earned a basketball scholarship at Lamar University and went on to play professional baseball. He married his high school sweetheart, Sue Carolyn Chambers on December 30, 1950.Floyd was drafted into the US Army as an MP stationed in Wurzburg, Germany in 1952.  He returned to the US and became general manager and president of a local oil and gas distributorship. Alyce Marie Boudreaux, 100, of Beaumont, died Sunday, March 17, 2024. She was born on November 2, 1923, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Ovey Shaw and Arthur Brauner. She was raised in Port Arthur, Texas. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School, where she met the love of her life, William J. Boudreaux. James Everette Harmon, 84, of Lumberton, died Wednesday, March 13, 2024.  He was born on July 23, 1939, in Church Point, Louisiana, to Mary Ruth Constantine Harmon and William Anthony Harmon. When James’ daughters were young and the family was living in Illinois, he would take them out to hunt fossils in the strip mines. He would bond with his family through adventure and finding the most unique relics. James was fun and easy-going and was the source of his daughter’s most fond childhood memories. Bennie Victor Janecka was born on January 22, 1939, in Weimar, to Victor and Annie Janecka. Rosemary Gonzales, 89, of Beaumont, passed to meet her Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 20, 2024. She was born on March 1, 1934, in San Antonio, Texas, to Donato Gonzales, Sr. and Maria Lopez Gonzales. She lived in Beaumont 85 years and graduated from Beaumont High School in 1953. Rosemary worked at San Jacinto Savings for 10 years. She also worked at The Fair Store and The White House until she retired. Larry Wood, 75, of Vidor died Tuesday, January 16, 2024. He was born on May 11, 1948, in Newton to Daisy Ruth Ward and Dennis Andrew Wood. Survivors include his children, Lance Wood and his wife, Hope; Jeremy Wood and his wife, Hilary; and Ginnifer Rogers and her husband, Joey; grandchildren, Hanna Wood, Emma Wood, Luke Wood, Katie Wood, Jacob Wood, Vance Wood, Kassie Flores, and Lena Rogers; sister, Patsy Hetzel; and brother, Bobby Wood. Larry is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; and brother, Thomas Wood. Memorial contributions may be made to Jordan Thomas Foundation, 9005 Overlook Boulevard, #742, Brentwood, Tennessee 37027. Cremation arrangements for Mr. Wood were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.
