He was born May 21, 1958, in Thibodaux, Louisiana, to Betty Jane Knott Stanley and John Herbert Stanley. John Keith Stanley is the proud owner of Cottontail Express. Keith loves trucks and drives them all over the United States. He dreams of having a trucking company, and he is one of a kind when it comes to trucking. “Drive along, babe. Lynda Carol Bobino, 81, of High Island, died Monday, March 4, 2024. She was born on January 25, 1943, to Lottie Marie and Lee Roy Turner. Lynda loved doing anything outside, including gardening and fishing. Anyone was welcome at her home at any time. She enjoyed dancing in her early years but recently she has been enjoying word searches and jigsaw puzzles. She volunteered for most of the things that happened in High Island. If anyone ever needed anything, she was always available. She retired after 26 years of service from High Island I.S.D on May 31, 2003. Jimmy Dean Leland, Jr, 44, of Winnie, died Friday, March 1, 2024. He was born on July 19, 1979, in Pasadena, to Ella and Jimmy Dean, Sr. Jimmy enjoyed everything – fishing, hunting, all sports, video games, watching movies, barbequing, being around people, and going to church. Survivors include his mother; stepsisters; Larynda, Jana, Tammie, and Jeanifer; nephews, David, Brockman, Bryce Leland; aunts, Brenda Leland, and Debby. Evelyn Hazel Borel Porter, 76, passed away on February 24, 2024, in her home in Hemphill, Texas, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 3, 1947, to Louis Alcide and Hazel Borel. Evelyn met the love of her life in kindergarten. According to her mother, Evelyn came home the first day of school and said she met the boy she was going to marry.  She did just that on August 4, 1967.  Evelyn and Paul Porter were happily married for 56 years. Leon Hopson was born on August 10, 1950, in Baytown, Texas, to Red and Eva Hopson, and, along with his three sisters, spent most of his life in Hamshire, America. Leon grew up in the shadow of the oilfield and, at the early age of 17, began his career as a deckhand on oil rigs, both on land and in the Gulf of Mexico.  He worked his way through the various rig positions until he became a directional driller.  After working with his father and on his own for many years, in 2003, Leon joined with two friends to create Crescent Directional.  He retired from Crescent in early 2016, and devoted himself as a full time resident at his barn, polishing his tractors, and harassing his friends, of which there were many. Bobby Little, 71, of Fannett passed away at his home Sunday, February 18, 2024. He was born on September 3, 1952, in Port Arthur, to Marvin and Maxine Little. He has two little brothers, Marvin Little, Jr. and Nelson Little. Bobby graduated from Nederland High School, and later worked as a cost tracker for Koch Industries for over 20 years. He has been a resident of the Fannett area for close to 50 years. Bobby married the love of his life, Clo Jane little, in July of 1983, and immediately gained two twin daughters, Lanette and Janette. Robert Benjamin Franklin, Sr., 93, of Hamshire, died Friday, January 26, 2024. He was born on July 22, 1930, in Rockport, to Lula and Mack Franklin. Robert was a supervisor at the Goodyear plant in Beaumont for over 30 years. Survivors include his son, Robert B. Franklin, Jr., of Arkansas; daughter, Shelly Selman and her husband, Thomas, of Crystal Beach; grandsons, Damon Selman of Houston, and Shane Selman of League City; and former wife, Rogayle Franklin. Beverly “Belle” Syphrett Weaver passed away January 17, 2024 at the age of 92. She was born in Devers, Texas, on March 12, 1931 to Charles & Helen Bonin Prevost. Belle was a lifelong Chambers County resident and attended Anahuac High School. She married D.W. “Dub” Syphrett and had two children, Daniel W. Syphrett Ill of Stowell and Helen DanElla McCarty of Liberty. They were married 24 years before he died. After the passing of Dub Syphrett, Belle enlarged her family when she married James Earl Weaver. This added two sons, Jimmy Weaver of Anahuac, and Gary Weaver of Hankamer. Belle and James were married 47 years. Michael Richard Kahla passed away on January 17, 2024, in Winnie, Texas. Born on August 27, 1942, to Erwin and Eula (Harrington) Kahla, he graduated from East Chambers High School in 1960. Although he initially pursued college for three years, he chose to step out and assist his parents at home. In 1963, he was drafted into the Army, where he dedicated his service. Following his military tenure, Michael ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing his own construction company. Later in life, he discovered joy in residing in Mexico, where he spent many fulfilling years. In 2019, he returned to Winnie, making it his home until his passing. He leaves behind his daughter, Nicole Colvin and her husband, Zac, as well as his cherished grandchildren: Colton, Carson, Cash, Max, and Braxton. Doris Chambers Hargraves was born in a boxcar in Nancy, Texas, on May 12, 1925, to her parents, James Talmadge and Grace Best Chambers. She spent her early childhood years in the Rockland, Texas area surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins. When she was a young teenager, her father went to work for Humble Oil and the family moved to Goosecreek, near Baytown, where she also had many fond memories. During her high school years, the family relocated to Tenaha, Texas, where her father owned several telephone exchanges. After graduating from Tenaha High School, Doris and her sister moved to Beaumont, for a short time, where she worked at the telephone company. Blake Anthony Long, 26, of Hamshire, died Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Memorial Hermann Hospital, Houston. Blake was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on October 14, 1997, to Danny and Toni Long. His sister, Nicole Swanstrom, was so excited to become a big sister. Blake grew up in Santo and attended Santo schools. Blake was very active and played soccer and basketball but loved basketball most. He was actively involved with his youth group at First Baptist Church Santo and enjoyed spending time with his friends, playing games and fishing. Shirley Jurek Bryson, 77, of Winnie, died Wednesday, January 10, 2024.  She was born on September 3, 1946, in San Antonio, to Hubert and Alice Hejtmanek Jurek. Shirley grew up in the small community of South Houston. She attended Pasadena Brethren Church where she was part of a loving and supportive church family. Shirley will be remembered for her artistic flair and her generous spirit.   She truly cared about others and their struggles and tried to help whenever and however she could. Robert Nicholas DeYoung, 99, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at his home in Hamshire, Texas.  He was born September 30, 1924, to Emma Fischer DeYoung and Herman DeYoung Sr. Robert was a lifelong resident of Hamshire, Texas.  After graduating from South Park High School, he thought about college but decided against it.  He worked for his dad as a carpenter for a few years, then he decided to hitchhike to Arizona for a summer in a mining camp making $450 before heading back home.  Once home in Hamshire, he decided to join the U. S. Navy in August, 1942. Horace Leon Porter, Sr., 86, of Fannett, died Thursday, December 28, 2023. He was born April 19, 1937, in Nacogdoches, to Francis Lee Johnson Porter and Jewel Elgin Porter. Leon enjoyed cooking holiday dinners for his family and friends every holiday. He also enjoyed coaching minor, little, and pony league baseball. Murlene Blanchard, 76, of Winnie, died Saturday, December 9, 2023. She was born July 25, 1947, in Nederland, to Ella Mae Sonnier Ortego and Nellard Joseph Ortego. Murlene enjoyed dancing to Cajun music and going out with her friends. Mary Lovenia Sonnier Hawkins, 43, of Winnie, died December 4, 2023. She was born on February 17, 1980, in Galveston, to Ruby and Herbert Sonnier. Mary graduated from East Chambers in 1998. Todd East passed away on December 1, 2023, in Beaumont, Texas surrounded by his family and loved ones.  He was born on January 13, 1962, in Anahuac, Texas to Mazie and Donald East. Todd was a career history teacher and coach beginning in 1985 in Groveton, Texas.  It was there where he married the love of his life, Brenda Golding East in 1987, and where their first born, Keaton, arrived in 1991. From there the family moved to High Island, Texas where he continued his coaching and teaching and where they welcomed their second child, Mattie, in 1994. Glenda Wilkes Nicholson, 60, of Houston, entered eternal rest on Monday, November 6, 2023. She was born March 26, 1963, in Rayne, Louisiana, to Barbara Nell Domingue Wilkes and Glen Derrick Wilkes. She married Jimmy Dean Nicholson on November 24, 1984 and became a mother to Ciarli Alyse Nicholson in 1987. Glenda began her teaching career at Beverly Hills Intermediate in Pasadena ISD as an art teacher and made lifelong friendships over her 32-year career.  Always the learner, Glenda returned to school to earn a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Houston Clear Lake.
