Gloria Rose Weiser Seligman
Gloria passed away peacefully just shy of 98-1/2 from “too many birthdays!”
Born in northern New Jersey and growing up in a family of all girls, Gloria loved going into New York City with her sisters to shop and spending summer vacations at the beach in Atlantic City. After attending high school in South Orange, New Jersey, she went on to graduate from the University of Delaware with a teaching degree. Gloria met her husband and love of her life, Kurt Lothar Seligman, while at the University of Delaware and they married in June 1950. As part of Kurt’s employment with DuPont, they lived multiple times in both Beaumont and Wilmington, Delaware. They also lived for several years in Londonderry, Northern Ireland and Mexico City.
Kurt and Gloria loved to travel and did so extensively by land and sea through Europe, Asia, Central and South America.
She was passionate about her love for dogs. They raised and showed several Irish Wolfhounds to Champion status. After moving to Arlington in 2021, she loved seeing her grand-dogs Cherry and Daisy.
Gloria loved to bake cookies and cakes, and was especially known for her legendary baklava, cheese ball and rum cake. Her most notable dinner entrée was meatloaf. She also enjoyed helping yearly with “Deli-Day.”
In the last 20 years Gloria became involved with quilting, even winning many competitions. She became very close and active with her sewing club, even going on a cruise dedicated to sewing. She was also very skilled at knitting and needlepoint.
Gloria was known for her wit and outgoing personality. She never met a stranger. She treasured entertaining friends, attending parties and having the grandkids spend a week with her each summer, an event that became known as ‘Cousins Club.’
Gloria was a breast cancer survivor with a strong spirit. She was also able to overcome several significant medical issues, most recently Covid. After Kurt passed, she became fiercely independent, living by herself for almost 20 years until age 95. Gloria was eternally optimistic and only saw the good in people.
Preceded in death by her husband, Kurt Seligman; parents, Joseph and Anna Weiser; sisters, Helaine Weiser, Ruth Steele, Joan Krafte and Lois Wolfe.
Survived by son, Dr. Steven and Nancy Seligman; son, David and Sarah Seligman; and her nieces and nephews on the East Coast.
6 grandchildren: Daniel Seligman, Leslie Seligman, Jessica Pomerenke, Jordan Seligman, Thomas Elkins and Virginia Brown.

Ms. Glo will be sorely missed! Her son Steve and I were OB/GYN residents together at Utmb in the early 80s and are lifelong friends. It’s interesting that he went into practice in Arlington, Texas, where my mother lived, and I went into practice in Beaumont Texas, where his mother lived. I enjoyed visiting with her about quilting and also loved her dogs.
Loved this gal. I got to know her through our quilting group. She was a hoot on our cruises. On the last one I got into a revolving door with her. She couldn’t see the exit out and we went around several times before I took over and got us out. I think of her and laugh every time I see a revolving door. She was always asked for her baklava or rum cake when we had eatin’ meetings.
So sorry for your loss miss that sweet lady I have Dr app so I can’t make the service god bless you all she was a good mentor for my quilting she passed my name around so I could make a living ..God bless you
