Denis Joseph Savoy

April 26, 1944 - October 13, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Denis Joseph Savoy, a man whose love for his family knew no bounds. At 80 years young, Denis brought joy to the lives of everyone he touched. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grand father, and his love for Mildred remains everlasting. He leaves behind a legacy that will be forever treasured.

The moments we shared with him will continue to fill our hearts, and his love will always be a part of us. His love for the outdoors and all types of hunting, especially duck hunting, deer hunting and fishing was more than just a hobby, it was a way of life that he passed on to all of us. Dad was a serious man, yet never without a joke. Beneath his strong exterior was a sentimental man, one who cherished the sweetest moments of life.

His grandchildren and great-granddaughters lovingly called him “PawPaw” a title he was glad to be given, just like his dad. They were the light of his life and he never failed to have a sucker in his pocket, continuing a tradition started by his grandfather. He was their biggest fan, never missing a dance recital, sports game, or just an opportunity to show his love. Out on the marsh was definitely a go to, especially with Korey.

Denis was a man of deep emotion, though he often showed it in quiet ways. Through the lessons he passed on, the memories he created, and the love that remained steady, even in the face of life’s imperfections, we know that, above all else, his heart belonged to his family. Though his passing feels far too soon, we take comfort in knowing how deeply he loved us and how proud he was of us. His spirit will forever be in every sunset, every breeze through the trees, and in every loving memory we hold dear. Dad immersed himself in nature and he approached every part of his life with pride. In the end, it was clear that God and his family are what mattered most.

Denis served his country with honor in the United States Marines for 10 years. He was a Rifle Marksman and also serving during the Vietnam War. He served in the marines with lifelong friends that always stayed in touch. After the marines he graduated from Texas A&M to begin his career as a Game Warden, serving 15 years with dedication and deep commitment to wildlife conservation and law enforcement. After all 3 of us were born, dad finished his career at Valero formerly known as “Gulf” where he retired after 38 years. He had the joy of working with his dad and cousin along with making lifelong friends.

Dad was preceded in death by his father, Roman Lee Savoy and mother, Ethel C. Stansbury Savoy.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred A. Savoy; his children, Yvette Michelle Savoy Crorey and Frank; Denis Jason Savoy and Jamie; Brandon Lynn Savoy and Ariana; his grandchildren, Korey Pedigo, Jasper and June Savoy; his great-granddaughters, Tyler and Kameron Pedigo; his sisters, Becky Savoy Caddy and Lucia Savoy Hyde; his brother, Stephen B. Savoy and wife Tricia; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.  We will carry on his love in our hearts, reminding us of the importance of love, even in life’s imperfections. We are blessed beyond measures to call him ours!
