Alice C. Gorrell
On, July 30, 2022, Alice Cherry Gorrell, 88, was called home by our heavenly father, after a tiresome battle with lung cancer.
Alice was born in Gary, Texas, on August 16, 1933, to Charlie B. Cherry and Jewell Williams. She married James Gorrell on September 1, 1954, in Beaumont, Texas. Alice and James had four children, Terry Gorrell, Ronald Craig Gorrell, James Mark Gorrell and Kimberly Ann Gorrell.
She worked for the Jefferson County Courthouse for 29 years and volunteered at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for 16 years. Alice was the type of woman who would call every family member on their birthday to sing them the birthday song. Every year without fail. She loved to travel with her husband. Alice would have family shopping days with her grandchildren, great- grandchildren and never missed a sports game or any special event for her kids and grandkids. She also had her sports teams she loved and was very adamant about. The Houston Astros, but nobody topped her Cowboys. She would cut Thanksgiving short to watch the game, and we love her for it. Alice was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and wife. A matriarch of our family, a truly beautiful soul. She brought laughs to our faces and smiles to our hearts.
She is now with our heavenly father and her late husband, James; son, Craig; daughter, Kim; and siblings. Alice is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A gathering of Mrs. Gorrell’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alice Gorrell may be made to the Beaumont Botanical Gardens, 6088 Babe Zaharias Drive, Beaumont, Texas, 77705.
A great thank you to caregivers, Martha Jackson, Gwen Alexander and Cassandra Almond, and Harbor Hospice for their impact in Alice’s life.
Alice is alive in all of our memories and hearts.

I grew up next to the Gorrell’s on Newfield Lane. She was a very sweet lady. My prayers for the family.
Thinking of you and your family during this time. May God give you comfort.
Mark, Amy and family my prays are for your comfort and
peace as you move through these days. In Christ

Alice was a wonderful volunteer at St. E. when I was Volunteer Director. She was always a gracious and lovely person and she will be missed.
Alice and I were two of the youngest in our BHS graduating class of 1950. She was a lovely person and will be sadly missed by many people. May she rest in peace. You all have my deepest sympathy. Ruthie (Ruth Krebs Mattox)
