Alvin Arthur Hayes

November 22, 1943 - July 10, 2025

Alvin Arthur Hayes, 81, of Silsbee passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025. He was born on November 22, 1943, in Vidor, to Verna Eugenia Knox Hayes and Albert Arthur Hayes.

Survivors include his loving wife, Linda Sue Hayes; children, James Hayes and his wife, Jane, of Silsbee; Jennifer Root and her husband, Michael, of Silsbee; grandchildren, Justin Hayes and his wife, Shelby; Whitney Zare and her husband, Ehson; Averie Hayes, Emma Hayes, and Ally Root, all of Silsbee; and Bailey Root, of Beeville; great-grandchildren, CJ Hayes; and sister, Alice Thornton, of Dallas. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Joe Jarreau, and Jean Batchelor, as well as his great-grandson, Fjord Hayes.

Alvin loved like Jesus. His family was everything to him, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a “joy, joy, joy: to his time here on Earth. He loved them tremendously. While Alvin didn’t have many hobbies, he enjoyed spending time outdoors-specifically maintaining his yard. He was placed in Boy’s Haven at age 10 due to circumstances with his parents, and aged out at 18. When Alvin met his wife Linda in 1966, he thought she was “the most beautiful girl he ever laid eyes on.” He watched her speak in a program for Bible school and couldn’t take his eyes off of her. A couple of months later he worked up the courage to ask her out, and they dated on and off for two years before Alvin’s work took him to Fort Worth. Once Alvin came back to their hometown, he and Linda rekindled-and it was “a magical moment.” They were married in 1968, and had their son in 1972, with a daughter to follow in 1977.

If you knew Alvin, when you asked him how he was doing he would answer “If I was any better, I’d be in Heaven.” Alvin had a peaceful passing, surrounded by loved ones and he was ready to be in Jesus’ arms. He will be missed by all of his family and those who loved him.
