Amy Anna Read

April 6, 1988 - August 20, 2024

Amy Anna Tweedel Read, of Orange, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, after an over eight-year battle with cancer.

Born on April 6, 1988, at St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas, Amy was the beloved daughter of Suzie and Jimmy Tweedel. From the moment she entered the world, Amy brought pure joy to those around her. Even as a young child, her spirit was adventurous and fearless. Before she could walk, she was already scaling bookshelves and diving into pools, showing no fear of heights or water. As she grew older, her love for the water led her to swim like a fish, and she joined the local summer swim team.

Amy began taking dance lessons at the tender age of two but discovered her true passion when she started tumbling lessons at five. Cheerleading quickly became her greatest love, and she devoted herself to it wholeheartedly. She cheered on competition squads, city leagues, and for Central Middle School and Nederland High School. It was shortly before graduating from Nederland High School in 2006 that Amy met the love of her life, John Daniel Read. They were married in Port Arthur on May 22, 2010.

Amy attended Lamar University, where she earned her Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) in 2010. After passing her state boards, she began her career as a Registered Nurse at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. Throughout her nursing career, Amy worked in various departments, but the NICU and nursery, where she cared for newborns, held a special place in her heart.

Amy’s love for babies extended into her personal life, where she and Daniel were blessed with three beautiful children: Peyton, Easton, and Asher. They were her heart and soul, the very reason she fought so valiantly to stay with us. Amy was, and always will be, a true inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

For over eight years, Amy fought cancer day in and day out without ever complaining. She managed a normal, stressful life, carrying through with grace, strength, and able to find joy even in the face of this devastating disease. Her resilience and determination were nothing short of extraordinary, inspiring everyone around her.

Amy is survived by her husband, John Daniel Read; daughter, Peyton Read; sons, Easton Read and Asher Read; her parents, Suzie and Jimmy Tweedel; her brothers, Nicolas Tweedel and Brennan Tweedel, along with his wife, Janette Tweedel; her grandparents, Joseph Russell Montondon, Betty McFatter, James Tweedel, Sr., and his wife, Elsie Tweedel; her uncles and aunts, Gaye Montondon, Kim Tweedel, Rennie Ihle, David Montondon and his wife, Tina Montondon, and Michael Tweedel. She is also survived by her in-laws, Cheryl and Ronnie Read; her sister-in-law, Angela Lopez; as well as numerous cousins and close friends.

Amy is preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Netsy Montondon, and her aunt, Renee Montondon Ihle.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
