Annie Marino
Annie Marino, 100, of Sour Lake, passed peacefully at her home on March 6, 2023, surrounded by her family. Annie was born October 24, 1922, in Beaumont, to Concetta and Ignazio (John) Aiena, immigrants from Palermo, Sicily. Annie was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 67 years, Anthony “T” Marino; her daughter-in-law, the late Judy Marino; and 7 siblings. Annie is survived by her sons, Robert Anthony Marino and Ronald J. Marino and daughter, Terri Marino Cash and her husband, John Cash. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph A. Aiena and sister, Pearl Rhoney; grandchildren: Milissa McCown and her husband, Doyle, Mitzi Burns and her husband, Andy, Brandon Cash and Blake Cash; and great-grandchildren, Chad McCown and his wife, Laura, Courtney Talmadge and her husband, Jake, Drew Burns and Ellie Burns; and great-great-grandchildren, Wesley Talmadge, JoLee McCown and Luke Crain.
Annie was a devoted wife and mother. Her life centered around family and friends, faith, travel and cooking. She cherished supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their various sporting events. Attending their activities was priority, as Annie was their biggest fan!
She loved to travel with her family and some of her favorite places included Aruba, Spain, Las Vegas, Austin and her most favorite, The Beach house. Annie loved her time swinging on the porch, enjoying her coffee and good conversations. These were precious moments that will always be cherished.
On any given day, there was always a seat at Annie’s table. With open arms, she welcomed all and no one left hungry. If you were lucky enough to show up on a Sunday after church, you would enjoy a pot of her homemade suga and meatballs with fried chicken and most likely a pot roast. Oh, and let’s not forget about dessert…. banana pudding was a staple, along with a pie or two!
Annie treasured her time cooking in the kitchen with her family, especially when gathering to make cuccidatis (Italian fig cookies), stuffing artichokes, or teaching her children and grandchildren her cherished cornbread dressing recipe.
She was dedicated to her Catholic faith and was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sour Lake. For several years, Annie was a eucharistic minister and enjoyed taking communion to the area nursing homes and visiting with the residents. Her love for the rosary was no secret. She could be found most mornings reciting her rosary always praying for and remembering those in need.
Annie exemplifies all things good in this world representing the Greatest Generation. Her strength, faith, and kindness are her legacy that she passes to the many lives she touched throughout her life.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Heart to Heart Hospice, their nurses and aides, specifically Amanda, Latosha and Hope, “our hospice angels” for their exceptional care and love given to Nona during her last months.
A Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m., with a gathering of Mrs. Marino’s family and friends to follow from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life beginning at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 13, 2023, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 210 West Barkley Street, Sour Lake. Her interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Annie’s honor to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church; Altar Society and include Annie Marino in the Memo, 210 West Barkley Street, Sour Lake, Texas 77659.

Terri, Ronnie, & Robert – my heart is saddened with Annie’s passing. So many memories of summers at the beach with Annie making a pot of gumbo from the fresh shrimp “T” had caught that morning!

Having grown up in the house next door to John/Terri/Brandon/Blake in Austin, Annie was like an adopted Grandma to my brother and I. Our family cherished our time with Nona. I will always remember her kind smile, nurturing demeanor, spunky personality, great sense of humor, and amazing culinary skills. What a blessing for all of us to have her on this earth for 100 years! Big hugs
