Assrie "Azarie" Brydson Dupree

June 19, 1940 - February 4, 2021

Assrie “Azarie” Brydson Dupree entered this life on June 19, 1940, born to Ora Benson and Mr. Loyce Brydson in Somerville, Texas. She left this earthy realm on Thursday, February 4, 2021.

Azarie was introduced to and accepted Jesus Christ at a young age.

During her formative years, she was raised and nurtured by her loving grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Will and Mattie Brydson. In her early pre-teen years, she traveled to Port Arthur, Texas to live with her father and stepmother, Loyce Brydson and Elizabeth Thornton Brydson.

Azarie attended Abraham Lincoln High School where she was a proud member of the graduating class of 1960.

In 1961, she married her classmate and friend, the late Charlie Dupree, Jr. To that union, she birthed two children, Jerry Wayne Dupree and Cheryl L. Dupree. That union later ended, however, they remained life-long friends.

Azarie was a longtime and faithful member of the First Sixth Street Baptist Church. She joined under the leadership of the late Reverend Dr. Ransom Howard and continued serving under Reverend Kalan Gardner. There was no doubt that she loved her church family and community as she actively participated in various church sponsored activities and events and was a member of the Deborah Circle and the Beautification Committee for twenty-five years.

Although she experienced many health challenges, she always had time to help a friend.

Survivors left to cherish her memory are her children, Jerry Wayne Dupree (Anita) and Cheryl James; grandchildren, Jerry Jr.; Aiyana; Branisha; Kerry; and Jennifer; sisters, Bobbie and Helen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; sisters, Willie Jean, Beatrice, and Annie Lee; and brothers, Steve and Robert Earl.

A gathering of Mrs. Dupree’s family and friends will begin at 9:30 a.m., with her funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2021, at First Sixth Street Baptist Church, 548 Abe Lincoln Avenue, Port Arthur. Her interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
