Bailey Gene Horn

August 26, 1928 - March 2, 2023

Bailey Gene Horn, 94, of Beaumont, died Thursday, March 2, 2023.  He was born on August 26, 1928, in Kirbyville, Texas, to Mattie Phillips Horn and William Asa Horn.  Mr. Horn proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Mr. Horn graduated from Spurger High School, then worked various jobs including work as a telegraph operator for the railroad, as a stevedore at the Brownsville Docks, and as a pipefitter for Local 195 for thirty plus years at Neches Butane.  He was a Master Mason at Snow River Masonic Lodge #385 for over fifty years, a member of the Spurger Lions Club and an active member of First Baptist Church in Spurger.

He was an excellent carpenter who built homes for his immediate and extended family, and greatly enjoyed working on the farm, growing many different crops which he shared with family and friends alike.  He was generous with his time and many talents – always willing to help where needed.  He honored the Lord and his family with quiet dependability and humble service and will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his daughters, Susan Montagne and her husband, Ray, of Orange and Carole Calvert and her husband, Frank, of Beaumont; granddaughters, Lindsey Keegan; Kristy Erwin and her husband, Ryan; Cortney Miller and her husband, Drew; and Kimberly Calvert; great-grandchildren, Andy and Will Rutledge and Gage and Gentry Erwin; sister, Sara Sheffield of Woodville; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of sixty-nine years, Joyce Horn, and his brother, William Horn.

A gathering of Mr. Horn’s family and friends will begin at 3:00 p.m., with his funeral service at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 5, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 12676 FM 92, Spurger, under the direction of Broussard’s, Silsbee.  His interment will follow at Magnolia Springs Cemetery, Kirbyville.

    I’m so sorry for your loss. Mr Bailey had such a sweet spirit. We loved riding over on the buggy to visit with him and Ms Joyce. He tried to teach me how to grow those huge delicious jubilee watermelons. He was always working around the place in Spurger and kept it immaculate but would always stop for a visit when we dropped by. I will miss them both but I know they are rejoicing in heaven
