Barbara Ann Young

September 21, 1944 - August 1, 2021

Barbara Ann “Eckols” Young, 76, of Beaumont died peacefully on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Harbor Hospice surrounded by her family.

Barbara was born in Laredo, Texas on September 21, 1944, to Annie Mae Reed Eckols and J.D. Eckols. When her father completed his military service, the family made their home in Beaumont. She was the oldest of three children, including her brothers Douglas and Donald Eckols.

During her high school years at French High School in Beaumont, she met and married her husband of 52 years, Weldon Clayton Young. Family was always very important to Barbara and this showed in the way she lived her life. She always gave herself totally to support whatever her family’s interests were, whether it be race car driving and bass tournaments, to baseball and dance. She was always involved, whether it be school, church or activities, and that continued with her grandchildren, never wanting to miss anything they did.

Later in life, Barbara and Weldon made their home in Kountze, where they were embraced by precious family members. They were also welcomed with open arms by their new church family, at Crestwood Baptist Church of Kountze, where many special people touched their lives.

Barbara was also blessed to have a few of those “once in a lifetime” friends, some of which started over sixty years ago, and their relationships stayed strong until the end.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Lori Young Cain and husband Roger of Beaumont; and grandchildren Waylon Clayton Young, Brandon Clayton Young, Lauren Leigh Cain, and Blake Reed Cain; brothers, Douglas Eckols and his wife Rosa of Mauriceville; Donald Eckols and his wife Monica of Austin; nieces, Leigh Ann Eckols of Galveston; and Amy Allen and her husband, Chris; and their children Jacob and Hannah of Cypress. She is also survived by a loving extended family whom she loved spending time with, especially at the Reed Family Reunions.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father, J.D. Eckols; mother, Annie Mae Eckols; her husband, Weldon Young; and her son, Wesley Young.

The family gives their heartfelt gratitude for each and every person who has been here for them. In consideration of the new outbreak of Covid 19 reluctantly, there will be no visitation before or after the funeral service, with a private burial afterward, with concern for all family and friends.

Mrs. Young’s funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A family graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

If you wish, memorial contributions may be made to Crestwood Baptist Church, 1150 US-69, Kountze, Texas 77625.

Dear relative of Barbara Ann, I met Barbara around her daughter's wedding. to me she came across as a loving mother to her children. Sadly she had to say goodbye to her daughter far too soon, but I believe they are now reunited with her and her husband with Him who is the Father of all of us. I wish all her loved ones a lot of strength in coping with this loss.
