Barbara Behrens Galloway
Barbara Behrens Galloway, 65, of Hemphill, Texas, passed away with her children and partner by her side on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on November 15, 1955, in Beaumont, Texas, to Paul Behrens and Maurine Ener Behrens.
Barbara is survived by her children, Shay Galloway and Sophie Galloway of Hemphill, Texas; parents, Paul and Maurine Behrens of Beaumont, Texas; partner, Bill Vernon of Hemphill, Texas; siblings, Beth Behrens Christal of Buda, Texas and Paul Behrens Jr. (Tanya) of Beaumont, Texas; and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Barbara graduated from French High School in Beaumont, Texas. She attended Texas A&M University and The University of Texas where she received her Pharmacy Degree. She practiced Pharmacy at several locations until settling in Hemphill, Texas. In Hemphill she purchased and lovingly restored the childhood home of her mother. Here she raised her children and became an active member of the Hemphill community. Before moving to Hemphill Barbara was an active member at Wesley United Methodist Church in Beaumont and was a valuable contributor to the creation of the Christmas presentation of “Road to Bethlehem”. Barbara made many friends at WUMC through her engagement in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Barbara was very passionate about helping others and giving back to her community. She was very involved in her church and in local organizations of the school. Some of the organizations she helped were the Hemphill ISD Education Foundation and the “Seed Patch,” after school program at the First United Methodist Church of Hemphill. Barbara was loved by many and cared greatly for her family and friends.
There will be a private family gathering held at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont, Texas.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 27, 2021, at First United Methodist Church, 181 Milam, Hemphill. Barbara wanted to protect the community she loved, so coronavirus precautions will be in place.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “Seed Patch” of the First United Methodist Church in Hemphill, P.O. Box 287 Hemphill, Texas 75948 or an organization of your choice.

I have many memories playing with Barbara during my childhood. We spent the night many times over the years. She will be missed. Prayers to her children and family
Barbara was an amazingly strong woman and I will always remember how she took care of my mother as she battled cancer. I always looked up to her. She set an example of how to live life. Love ya!!!
