Barbara Jean Bliss Babineaux

October 28, 1948 - January 4, 2026

Barbara Jean Bliss Babineaux, age 77, of Port Neches passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026. She was born on Thursday, October 28, 1948, in Galveston to Ray Lee and Leonia Bliss. She was the youngest of five children.

She graduated from Galveston Ball High School in 1966. She began working at Lykes Brothers Shipping and at a company picnic, she met the love of her life, Jimmy. After about three years of dating, they married on Saturday, August 5, 1972, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Galveston. Together they moved to Southeast Texas to start their lives and begin their family.

Barbara was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend whose life was centered around all those roles. Barbara enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She would spend hours cooking entrees, side dishes, appetizers, and desserts for a family gathering. There was no such thing as too much food. She made sure that at every gathering everyone had their favorite. Her award winning, Banana Split Pie, was a favorite of many.

Barbara loved her husband. Together they built life grounded in love, partnership, and shared dreams. They created a beautiful family who loved them. She supported her husband in all his endeavors. Whatever was dealt their way, good or bad, they handled it together. His love for her is and always will be unwavering, forever.

She was a dedicated mother to her three children. She participated in the PTA, often at three different schools at the same time. She was often homeroom mom for her children’s grade school classes. Barbara would made handmade crafts for holiday school parties ensuring that each child had something to bring home. She would make each teacher a gift for each holiday.

Barbara opened her home and herself to many people in her life, not just her family, but many friends and relatives. Her home was so open, it seemed that some lived there, from nieces to nephews, to friends of her children. Some have said that she was the best mom to them. She made each feel welcome, loved, and cared for whenever they needed.

Barbara would always lend and ear and listen to your triumphs and your troubles. She had a way of listening and gently offering guidance and support.

She was a dedicated, devoted, hardworking woman in everything she did. She wanted the best for everyone. She gave herself wholeheartedly to every task that was laid before her, often making sacrifices, putting the needs of others before her own. Her strength, devotion, kindness, warmth, and bravery are her legacy.

In the fall of 1994 I met Neil in gym class. We were fast friends. Soon after I was invited over to Neil’s home where I met his family, including Mrs. Babineaux. I still remember the first time she opened the door, introduced herself with that warm smile. “Neil, your friend Frank is here” echoed through the house. Neil and I began hanging out near daily. At each visit was Mrs. Babineaux, her smile, laugh and always something cooking to eat. Many a days and nights I spent with the family. Although it was never expected, Mrs. Babineaux always had a gift for me at the family Christmas party, which she handed over happily with that wonderful smile. Some years passed with many more visits, meals, laughs. As I was applying for college, Mrs. Babineaux offered to fill out scholarship paperwork for me. Once away in college, she would call me to check how I was doing. She danced with me at my wedding. While I was not her son, she made me feel as though I was, and I did. I miss seeing her. She was a light in a very dark time for me, which made our interactions that much more special. Thank you Mrs. Babineaux, and to the rest of the Babineaux family, for welcoming me in as family. I will remember it to my last day. Love you all.
