Barbara Jean Broussard
Barbara Broussard, 87, died Saturday, March 11th, in her home after gracefully battling progressive lung disease. She was born in Port Arthur to Fred Gregory and Pauline Culver Gregory. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and was a proud member of the Red Hussars.
In 1955, she married James Broussard while he was serving in the Army at Fort Bliss in El Paso. Their first child, Cheri, was born there before they returned to Beaumont.
She and James have been members of St. Anne Catholic Church for 66 years. Barbara served on the Parish Council, was President of St. Anne Ladies, and a member of the 49’ers Retirement Group. She and James were also members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Barbara was also a member of the Junior League of Beaumont.
Barbara loved her family. She participated in and supported their activities through the years and was always very proud of their accomplishments. There was never a holiday that she didn’t want them all together and never a day that she didn’t look forward to their phone call.
She is survived by, James, her husband of 67 years. Also by her children: daughter, Cheri and Alan Fama of Houston; son, James (Jim), Jr. and Hope Broussard of Beaumont/Fannett; and daughters, Catherine and Brad Klein of Beaumont and Karen and Layng Guerriero of Kerrville. Other family include her sister, Vicki McKinzie of Cleo Springs, Oklahoma; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Blue Broussard III and wife, Rachel and their son, James Blue IV and daughter, Emma; Jayme Toeppich and husband, Steven and their daughter, Margaret; Dwight Standley, Jordan Fama, Tucker Fama, Dillon Klein, Gramm Klein, Will, Grace, and Quency Guerriero. Also, many amazing nieces and nephews around the country.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Fred C. Gregory; and her grandson, Quentin Klein.
The family would like to thank Kimberely and the nursing staff at Gentiva Hospice for the excellent care mom received. Equally important, are the team of caregivers who lovingly held mom’s hand and cared for her during her journey these last months. We are forever grateful to all of you.

I’m so sorry to learn of this. A lady more gracious and beautiful than Mrs. Broussard will be hard to find. Once upon a time, I took ballet lessons with Cheri. I have a special memory of getting ready for a recital performance, and Mrs. Broussard putting my stage make up on. I remember thinking, “She is beautiful, like an Angel.”
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Broussard. Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
