Barbara Louise Boersman Tierney

September 24, 1931 - May 19, 2025

Barbara Louise Boersman Tierney, 93, of Beaumont, died Monday, May 19, 2025. She was born on September 24, 1931, in Port Arthur to Melvia Joyce DeFrates Boersman and George Oliver Boersman.

She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High school where she was a band Majorette 1949-1950, and Heralds 1948-1950.

Barbara from a young age was trained in classical ballet and many other forms of dance in New York, California, and Chicago. In her early 20’s she opened Barbara Boersman School of Dancing in Port Arthur. She offered Tap, Ballet, Toe, Acrobatics, Baton Twirling and American Jazz. Barbara was a member of National Association of Dance and Affiliated Artists, Inc. and The International Baton Twirling Association. In her late 20’s she took a job at Gulf States Utilities, that is where she met the love of her life, Hal. They were married October 14th, 1960, in Port Arthur. They Lived in Beaumont for a while and then in 1977 moved to Silsbee. Ms. Tierney moved back to Port Arthur in 1983 and was a member of the Church of Christ for many years. In later years, she moved back to Beaumont, to live with her daughter, Kathleen, and her family. Ms. Tierney joined the Meeker Baptist Church and was a cherished member of that congregation until her death.

Ms. Tierney found great comfort reading the Bible and studying God’s word all her life. She was very open about sharing his word and offering prayer for everyone in need. Barbara also enjoyed spending time all three of her grandchildren. She was very active in spending time with them and enjoyed going to all of their school ceremonies or athletic events.

Survivors include her children, Kathleen Hardt and her husband, Steven, of Beaumont, and Sharon Tierney Meads and her husband, Kevin, of Orange; grandchildren, Wyatt Hardt, Ethan Daniel Meads, and MaKenna Leigh Ann Meads; nephew, Matthew Boersman; niece, Brenda Boersman Yagy; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Barbara is preceded in death by the father of her children, Hal G. Tierney; her parents; and brother, George “Bucky” Boersman.

Ms. Tierney’s memorial service will be 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 20, 2025, at Meeker Baptist Church, 575 North Meeker Road, Beaumont. Her cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

    I have known Barbara for many years, she was beautiful inside and out, and I I will miss her so much. She loved her family very much, loved telling me stories about them when I visited. Such a caring, friendly lady who loved everyone. Well done good and faithful servant, your job is done, may you rest in peace.
