Barbara Rose Cook Smith
Barbara Rose Cook Smith, 75, of Silsbee, died Monday, August 12, 2024. She was born on January 12, 1949, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Grace Opal Riddle Cook and Stanley James Cook.
Barbara grew up in Eastern Oklahoma and at the age of eighteen, married Larry Capps. They had their son, Allen in 1967 and while pregnant with Allen, she began her cosmetology career. In 1974, she was a single mother living in Dallas Texas, where she met her second husband, Dewayne Anderson. They married July 4, 1974, and six years later Amanda Rose was born, fifteen months after that, Carole LeEllen (Sissy) was born.
Barbara joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1982 and was sealed to her family in the Dallas Texas Temple in 1985. In 1986, she completed her Texas cosmetology degree at Lamar University and operated her own beauty shop until 1992 until she closed the shop to take care of her mother in-law in Kirbyville, who was dying of cancer. Barbara’s marriage of twenty-five years ended in divorce in 1999. She married David Smith in 2000, and once again opened her beauty shop, and continued to operate the shop until her deteriorating health impelled its closure. Her testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ, and his gospel, and the truthfulness of the restoration of said gospel in this, the latter days, remained firm right up to her dying day. Her legacy is that of the enduring influence of motherhood… work, sacrifice, and love.
