Bernice Adell Whitehead

May 7, 1923 - July 15, 2022

Bernice Adell Whitehead, 99, of Groves, died Friday, July 15, 2022. She was born May 7, 1923, in Wrightsboro, Texas, to Ester and John Smith.

She was very industrious. When times got rough, she began making drapery, which hung in many Port Arthur homes, businesses, and historical buildings. As an Army wife, she lived in many locations. In younger years, she enjoyed dancing and playing “42.”

In memory of Bernice, the family requests everyone to where something red. She loved her family, and was a very faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church, rarely ever missing a Sunday, or Wednesday night services.

Survivors include her sons, Wayne Whitehead and wife, Wanda, of Nederland and David Whitehead and wife, Romie, of Groves; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Claude Whitehead, Sr.; son, Thomas Claude Whitehead, Jr.; daughter, Linda Joyce Whitehead; and great-grandson, James Whitehead.

A gathering of Mrs. Whitehead’s family and friends will be 12:00 p.m., with her funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.

Bernice was a very special woman to me. I met her around 1992 when she walked into the salon I worked at. I did her hair and she became my most loyal customer but such a dear friend, and just like my grandmother.
My oldest son just moved to Washington. I wanted to surprise her and call her from Mount Rainier when I got here. She always told me she wanted to go there one more time before she died. Bernice I saw it and it’s beautiful! I wish I could have brought you with me. You will be a forever person in my heart. I can never eat a Werther’s Originals candy without thinking about you. Love you forever Bernice!

    To the family of Adele,
Adele was a dear friend and so sorry that I didn’t get to tell her goodby but I know she was surrounded by her family that she dearly loved. She told me so many times how much she loved all of you. I have so many fond memories of our many visits. She had many stories to tell. She is with our Lord and Savior in one of His many mansions. In His Care, Johnnie Marie
