Betty Earlean Emmons Porter

May 15, 1944 - February 27, 2023

Betty Porter, 78, was taken to be with our Lord on February 27, 2023. She was born on May 15, 1944, in Headland, Alabama, to Agnes Earlean Emmons Foster and John Wesley “Jimmy” Emmons.

Betty married the love of her life, Charles Porter, on October 7, 1961, and they remained happily wed until his death last October 6th. Betty was a loving wife, mother, Maw-Maw, and friend. She adored her family and worked hard to create a happy home. Betty loved to entertain and celebrated almost every event with a party. She was a very good cook and made a fantastic pot of gumbo.

Betty was fun to be around and loved to dance. In fact, it was dancing that brought her and Charles together. They met at a teen dance in 1958. She and Charles enjoyed their friends and were blessed with great friendships that lasted for many years. Bowling was a big part of Betty’s life and she and her team won several tournaments. Betty was an active member of both the Wesley United Methodist Church in Nederland and Bay Vue Methodist Church at Crystal Beach.

She was very involved with civic activities in both Nederland and Crystal Beach. She served on the Nederland Heritage Festival Committee for many years and held the position of chairman for one year. She was active with the Jaycees and the Nederland-Port Neches Evening Optimist Club. She and Charles also worked with the Crystal Beach Mardi Gras Krewe. Betty was a talented florist. She and Charles owned and operated Bee-Cee Wholesale Flowers and Gifts in Nederland, for several years.

She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Debbie Griffin and Dan Mitchell and Kim Woods and Jay Woods; grandson, Colby Woods and Shannon Guidry; granddaughters, Cassie Harrison and Rob Harrison and Jenna Crump; and three great-granddaughters, Brooklyn Harrison, Kayleigh Crump, and Amelia Crump.

Sincere condolences to your family. I am so very sorry for your loss. May God provide the necessary peace and comfort to your family and friends during this difficult time. Please remember these words of encouragement from the Bible: “ Jesus plainly told her: “I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.” —John 11:20-25.

My sweet dear friend. I remember all trips, fising at the beach, and dances. But mostly those long quiet walks on the beach. Just two friends sharing life, thoughts and love. I miss you my friend. Prayers for all the family. Your light shone so bright here on earth. Heaven is surely brighter with you there.

    Debbie Griffin says:

Wanda, she absolutely loved you and Boo.

    Eileen+Tindall says:

Prayers to the family on the loss of your mother. Betty loved her family and spoke of them often. Betty has been reunited w/Charlie as she would want to be at his side again.
She and Charlie were loved by many at the beach and will surely be missed by all their friends.
