Betty Jean Debes
Betty Jean Debes, 92, of Beaumont, died Thursday, March 12, 2026. She was born to Dolly Patton Walker and Alton Walker on May 15, 1933, in Highlands, Texas.
Betty lived a life centered on love, faith, and family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. A natural caregiver, Betty always placed the needs of others before her own, offering comfort, wisdom, and unwavering support to her family and those around her. She was known for her exceptional cooking and the joy she found in bringing loved ones together around the table. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and cherished memories.
Betty was also a faithful and devoted member of St. Michael Orthodox Church, where her faith guided her life and strengthened the love she shared with others. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir with her angelic voice and was a lifelong member of the ladies’ altar society. Betty was truly the heart of her family. Her gentle spirit, encouragement, and unconditional love created a lasting foundation that will continue to live on through the generations she helped shape.
She is survived by her loving children, James Alton Debes of Beaumont and Joanie Herrmann and her husband, Duwayne, of Beaumont; daughter-in-law, Nannette Debes of Beaumont; sisters, Maxine Sharron of Beaumont and Glenda Harvey and her husband, Willie Ray, of Baytown; brothers, Douglas Sharron and his wife, Vonda, of San Antonio, and Jackie Sharron of Port Allen, Louisiana. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Jason Herrmann and his wife, Nickole; Misty Zatopek and her husband, Allen; Allison Bernard and her husband, Derrick; Sam Debes III and his wife, Lauren; and Adam Debes.
Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren, Brianna Herrmann, Lucas Kirkpatrick, and Edie Herrmann, as well as her great-great-grandchild, Samuel Villarreal.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wallace Debes, Sr.; her sons, Wallace Debes, Jr. and Sam Debes; her brother, Donald Walker; and her sister, Laverne Savant.
Memorial contributions for Mrs. Debes may be made to St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 680 North 15th Street, Beaumont, Texas 77702.
A gathering of Mrs. Debes’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Trisagion at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2026, at St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 690 North 15th Street, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2026, at St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, with her interment to follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Beaumont.

My deepest condolences to Joanie Kay and all of the Debes family. Betty Debes was a beautiful lady inside and out. I learned so much about life and love and family from Mrs. Debes and the Debes family. Many good times spent with them all.
