Beverly Ann “Big Mama” Tunnell Baker
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Beverly “Big Mama” Baker, who lost her courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. when the Angels came to take her to her mansion in the sky. Known for her big heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering kindness, she left this world as gracefully as she lived in it, surrounded by the love of her family.
For twenty-five years, Beverly devoted herself to the Lumberton Independent School District, touching the lives of countless students and staff with her warmth, generosity, and dedication. Whether it was offering a listening ear or lending a helping hand, Beverly was always there for others, going above and beyond to make sure everyone around her felt cared for. Her impact on the community will be felt for years to come.
Outside of work, Beverly was affectionately known as “Big Mama” by those who were lucky enough to know her. She had a deep love for life, which she shared through her love of Tweety Bird, a cold Miller Lite, and always being there for the people who mattered most to her. Her sense of humor, big smile, and caring nature made her a true joy to be around. She was the person you could always count on for support, laughter, or a good conversation.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Bubba Baker; and children, Robert Tunnell, Christie Baker and Jessica Babin, who will all carry forward the kindness, joy, and strength Beverly so freely gave. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Robert Tunnell Jr, Amanda Baker, Ashley Baker, Xavier Morris “Baby X”, Dillon Tate, Corlon Tate, Brett Swearingen and Santana Ligons; eight great-grandkids; siblings, Wanda Langham; and Harold Tunnell, Jr. and his wife, Betty; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by parents, Alice Joyce Biano Tunnell and Harold Tunnell, Sr.; siblings, Danny Tanner, Bobby Tunnell, Larry Tunnell, Dale Tunnell, Donny Tunnell, Sandy Humble and Darlene Shackelford; and daughter, Aletha Ligons.
To celebrate her wonderful life a gathering of Mrs. Baker’s family and friends will begin at 11:00 a.m. with her funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2025. At Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Leatherwood Cemetery, Lumberton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity or foundation of one’s choice in her honor.
Beverly’s love, laughter, and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She may be gone, but her spirit will forever be with us.
