Billie Greer Osborn

November 13, 1930 - March 2, 2025

Billie Greer Osborn, 94, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away March 2, 2025.

Born in Magnolia, Arkansas, on November 13, 1930, to Dolph and Ruthie Mae Greer, Billie was the youngest of two sisters. As a teenager, she assisted with her family’s taxi business, engaged in student government, was a cheerleader, and was honored as the Homecoming Queen of Springhill High School.

Education was always paramount to Billie. She was an honor roll student and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and a Master of Education from the University of Houston. She was a proud member of the Tri Delta sorority.

In 1951, Billie married her high school sweetheart, Gene Butts. Together, they lived in New York, Houston, and Southern California, where their two children were born. In California, Billie was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening, cake decoration, and actively participated in PTA organizations at her children’s schools.

In 1972, they moved to Beaumont where she taught math and science at French and Central high schools. In Beaumont, Billie built life long friendships at the bridge table and enjoyed entertaining and traveling with friends. She was a docent at the McFaddin-Ward House and enjoyed home tours on her travels.

Billie continued to support her children’s education and served as president of the Beaumont Aggie Moms organization. She cheered for the Aggies whenever she could.

After 42 years of marriage, Billie was widowed. Six years later, she was fortunate to meet her second husband, Richard Osborn, through their mutual love for bridge. Billie and Richard enjoyed 24 wonderful years together, blessing everyone who knew them. They were active members of the Calder Baptist family and enthusiastic travelers who relished visiting family, friends, and exploring the world.

Billie is survived by her daughter, Brooksie Bennett of Spring, Texas; son, Michael Butts and his wife, Shelby, of Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Zoe Butts of Houston, Texas; and stepson, Gary Osborn of Beaumont, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Gene Austin Butts; her second husband, Richard Joseph Osborn; and her sister, Francille Wieble.

A gathering of Mrs. Osborn’s family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Calder Baptist Church, 1005 North 11th Street, Beaumont. Her cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium.

    Hi to Brooksie and Mike.
Today is Sunday, August 31, 2025. Firstly, I understand your loss but I also know that your mom lived a full and blessed life and, after serving her family and community, she is now at peace with the Lord. So, let’s celebrate her life!
I came across this site only because I was going through pictures on my computer and came across Brooksie and me riding pedal cars in Westminster, CA. 1963? We had quite an adventure one day driving those little cars 2 miles to go and see my sister at her school!
When my Dad passed a few years back, his service was held at the church around the corner of your Escondido house. I drove up the street to see your house.
A few weeks ago, I made a delivery up by your house at Lake Wohlford. I drove by your house up there. Your mom hated living there because she saw snakes.

Anyway, I have fond memories of your mom and dad and the both of you. Yes, that was many years ago but there were some fun times including our weeklong trip up to Hearst Castle!

God Bless you guys and if you want the picture of us in the pedal cars, email me at centrecitycycles@aol.com

    Take care

My heart is most saddened by the passing of Billie Ruth. She was an amazing woman in so many ways. Although her sister was my aunt, I always thought she was my aunt also.

My thoughts and prayers are with all who loved her. I know each of us will miss her.

Thank you Nancy. We are all grateful for our time with her. She lived a long and full life that touched countless lives.
