Billie James Wiese

Billie James Wiese, 82, Nederland, died Saturday, November 29, 2025. He was born on March 16, 1943, to Emma Louise Muegge and William Willie Wiese at his family home in Cranfills Gap.

Billie spent his early childhood and teenage years caring for and showing animals and won numerous awards along the way.

After high school he went on to work at several different jobs, before landing his 32-year career with Santa Fe Railroad, starting as a clerk and working his way up to a Trainmaster.

During the start of his RR career is when he met his wife, Lela. They were married for 44 years before her passing in 2017. They raised 3 children and enjoyed 3 grandsons together.

His retirement allowed him to continue and grow his passion for decorating during the holidays especially Christmas, where he spread Christmas cheer to thousands of people.

When he was not at home you could find him at church, caring for the church grounds, and the community around him.

Survivors include his daughters, Tammy Duncan and her husband, Deat, Barbara Haro and her husband, Robert; son, James Wiese; grandchildren, Dylan Duncan and his wife, Amanda, Nicholas Haro, and Joseph Haro; great-grandchildren, Torry and Kyson Duncan; sister,  Emma (Tillie) Marbut; brother, Kenneth Wiese and his wife, Audra; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lela Wiese; parents, Emma Louise Muegge and William Willie Wiese; and siblings, Laura Kelm, Gertrude Gunn, and Ora Sanders.

A gathering of Mr. Wiese’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Broussard’s 505 North 12th street, Nederland. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 5, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Beauxart Gardens, 8230 Holmes Road Nederland. His interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Jefferson County, Nederland.

    I met Mr. Wiese and his wife one year when we were visiting the house in full decoration for Christmas. What a sweet couple. Heaven definitely received an angel that made so many happy for so many years. Prayers for the family. RIP Sir.
