Calvin Joseph Hebert
Calvin Joseph Hebert, 86, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. He was born on September 7, 1934, to Mable Gaspard Hebert and Melvin J. Hebert, in Abbeville, Louisiana. Calvin had a long time career with Gulf States Utilities which included his position as Senior Vice President of Finance. After a merger with Entergy, he retired as Vice President of Operations after 33 years of employment in various positions. He enjoyed his career and the people he worked with immensely.
Calvin earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. He had a thirst for knowledge and was an avid reader. He also liked to fix things and was an excellent problem solver.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, and loved being a Marine.
Cal was a member of the SAXET and PU Investment Clubs. He also chaired and participated in the Choker’s Golf Tournament, and was an avid golfer. The members always looked forward to his Cajun jokes, and he was an entertaining storyteller as well. Cal had an infectious smile and sense of humor. Years ago, he also enjoyed duck hunting.
He and his wife, Shirley, loved the beach. They were involved in neighborhood activities such as the Mardi Gras Court. The beach house is a place for family to gather and many happy, lasting memories have been made there.
In these later years, he and Shirley have enjoyed sitting on their back deck, feeding the squirrels and birds. Cal looked forward to his favorite Scotch and cigar with his son-in-law and grandsons, while discussing life.
Cal was a wonderful husband of 60 years and a loving and giving father and grandfather. His lasting legacy will be how he taught his children and grandchildren to be strong in their faith and live a life of gratitude. He was a very caring soul and always put family first.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Foret Hebert; daughters, Phyllis Hebert Russo and her husband, Louis, of Clear Lake, Michelle Hebert of The Woodlands, and Lynette Hebert Brown of Spring; sister, Gloria Humble and brother, Robert Gayle Hebert, both of Abbeville, Louisiana; grandchildren, Christopher Russo, Michael Russo and his wife, Kendall, Faith Brown, and Kaylin Brown.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth James Hebert.
A gathering of Mr. Hebert’s family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 26, 2020, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Monday, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 6825 Gladys Avenue, Beaumont. His entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont. Please observe social distancing guidelines.

Im very sorry to hear of Mr. Hebert's passing I was a guard at the Entergy building in the early 90's and saw him many times. He was very easy going and he enjoyed tlakign with people. One day while I was working the evening shift a cab pulled up and the cabby got out and brought in several gun cases, I put them behind the counter in the lobby and the operations supervisor called out front after seeing the cases, before I said anything he said I bet those belonged to Mr.Hebert so I looked at the tags an dsure enough they were his. I called to his office and let him know thye were here and a couple minutes later he came down and took thme out to his car. Times were easier back then and all was quiet. I do remember he drove the mint late 70's model white chevy car he drove and was always kept in great condition. He was a good man.

I am so sorry for the loss of this wonderful man, but beyond grateful to have known him. I will never forget how much fun we all had at the beach and traveling to Biloxi. He was always smiling and always kind.. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His wonderful family was everything to him and he will live on through them.

I will never forget Mr Hebert, such a beautiful soul. His daughter Lynette and I were friends in high school and I loved hanging out at their house! Mr. and Mrs Hebert always made me feel welcomed. Mr. Heberts smile was infectious and his laugh was the best! Lots of fun times at the Heberts house!!! Much love and many prayers to the Hebert family as they celebrate the life of this wonderful Patriarch... May he rest in the arms of Jesus.

I only know about Mr. Hebert through two of his wonderful daughters Michelle and Lynette. Knowing both of them from the church we all go too. I feel like I already know him somewhat just through the poise the grace and loving action I have seen from his two sweet girls. A truly genuine human being, and that says a lot about a person. Mrs. Hebert, We are so sorry to hear about Mr. Heberts passing. We are neighbors and have always enjoyed waving at him and saying ' Good morning"! We also enjoyed the bag of satsumas he walked over to us.. Such a kind man. God bless him.
Was shocked to hear of Cal’s passing. Both jim and I thought so well of him and his beautiful family. We often thought of stopping for a visit in Beaumont as we traveled to Houston for doctor visits for our son. We have ordered 30 Gregorian Masses for his intention. May he enjoy the rewards of a faithful and devoted life to his God and Father. (Sadly, my Jim died suddenly 3 weeks later. A stint placed in heart surgery 10 years ago broke from its mooring and pierced his heart. ,) I am brokenhearted as I’m sure you are. God bless you, Shirley. -Bertha

I am Cal and Shirley’s youngest daughter. Thank you so much for your heartfelt response. I see this was in 2021 so I hope you know by now that my mom passed away 64 days after my dad on Christmas day! It has been a sad and challenging time as we also lost Phyllis, our oldest sister to pancreatic cancer in April of this year. I am sorry for the loss of your husband as well. I hope you are well.
