Cameron Hughes

September 7, 1993 - May 22, 2025

Cameron Thomas Hughes, 31, of Lumberton, was met by his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 22, 2025. He was born on September 7, 1993, in Houston, to Stacey Lynn Reynolds Hughes and Royce Wayne Hughes, Jr.

Cameron attended Lumberton ISD, kindergarten through 12th grade. He was a proud Raider and graduated with the Class of 2012. While in school, he played in Little Dribblers, Lumberton Little League, and Lumberton Raider football. He attended Calvary Baptist Church and later moved his letter to Crestwood Baptist Church, where he was active in the youth group and played his beloved guitar in the praise band.  He graduated from LIT with his degree in I&E. He was currently an employee of Mason Construction and took great pride in his job which he often referred to as his “work family”.

Cameron, through his short life, never met a stranger. Cameron was a man with a heart as vast as the outdoors he loved so much. Whether casting a line on quiet waters or trekking through the woods in search of his next adventure, he found joy in nature’s embrace. His greatest treasure, however, was not found in the land or lake—it was his beloved sons, Jesse and Ethan, who were his pride and joy. Cameron had a rare gift for making everyone feel like they were his best friend, always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer kindness without hesitation. His presence was a comfort, his generosity unmatched, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him. While his earthly death leaves a massive void in our lives, we firmly and faithfully believe we will see him again because at six years of age, he asked Jesus into his heart and he proudly claimed Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior.

Survivors include the mother of Cameron’s children, Beth Brisendine-Hughes; children, Ethan and Jesse; parents, Royce Hughes, Jr. and Stacey Hughes; grandmother, Sandra Carter; aunts and uncles, Alan Hughes and his wife, Kristen; and Jim Reynolds and his wife, Marcia; cousins, Audree, Brielle, Noah, Stephanie and John; as well as numerous co-workers, friends, and loved ones through the years.

He is preceded in death by his grandpappy, Wayne Hughes; his pa, Charlie Carter; his papa, Harold Reynolds; and his me-mother, Ebilene Reynolds.

A gathering of Cameron’s family and friends will begin at 2:30 p.m., with his memorial service to follow at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Crestwood Baptist Church, 1150 US-69, Kountze. His cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.

    Dear Stacy and Royce:
I don’t even have words. I got the call at work and literally threw up in my trash can. I have so many memories of Cam and so many photos of him. He was the only kid I knew who was just as big of a momma’s baby as Court was when they were little. Those boys could wear us out, couldn’t they?
Stacy and Royce, you two were the best parents. Cameron was loved and adored and there wasn’t a minute in his life he didn’t know that. I love how close you all remained. Any time Court met someone from Lumberton, he would ask “do you know my friend Cameron Hughes?” Every single person said “OMG! Everyone LOVES Cameron.”
We loved Cameron! I loved his laugh and his love for FUN. He was so good natured. Such a good kid. I can’t believe we are having to say goodbye so soon. I am so thankful for the promise that we will see him again.
Court and I will continue to pray for you guys in the days ahead as you begin learning to do life without your baby.
Stacy, I am always here for you. Please call me any time. In the weeks to come I am going to gather some photos I have of Cam and bring them to you. We have great memories. He had a great life. May the Lord bind up your broken hearts as He promises to do and keep you close to His heart. I love you guys so much!

    Vanessa Downey says:

Cameron was our ‘boy next door’, even if he lived a couple houses down the street. My sister and I have so many memories and summers filled with Cameron and the gang. He was the ultimate in wrapping peoples houses; even if he left his camo crocks at the front door and oatmeal cream pies on the roof. His distinct call of, “Hey Mr. Downey!” will always be my favorite. Listening to select Ray Wylie Hubbard songs will never be the same, but the laughter and the stories we get to tell about them and about Cam will always be special.

There are not enough words to describe what a kind, good hearted, fun, and dependable man Cameron was. Our family loved him, and we are so heartbroken; but what a treasure and honor it was to know someone so special to so many. Mrs. Stacey and Mr. Royce, Beth and the boys, we love you dearly and are keeping you and your sweet family in our prayers.

My heart is so sad with this news. The memories of the boys(Nathan Pipps)playing aports and attending school together are cherished memories! I am so happy to know Jesus was in his heart at such a youg age- the write up truly touched my heart to know this and to hear what an amazing man he was!
May your hearts feel the comfort and peace that only Jesus can provide. My heart aches for all that are feeling such sadness in the loss of his precious life on this earth….may the hope of seeing him again and the wonderful memories carry you through until then. We are praying for all family and friends.

    Ron and Emily Albritton says:

Royce and Stacey, it is with great sorrow as we are compelled to answer with the hearing of this tragic news. Our memories of Cameron is of him marching in our office facility proudly at his mother’s side. He was always a quiet, well-mannered child. Though we lost contact with the family over the years, we see he grew up as we would expect into a handsome, stout, and accomplished young man. We grieve with the family for the early departure of Cameron. God knows ALL things! Trust and lean on Him in this hour.
