Carleen Lula Wall
Carleen Lula Wall, 92, of Beaumont passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. She was born on April 21, 1933, in Marshall, to Ruth and John Dryden Smith.
She was everything a mother, a mom, and a grandmother was supposed to be. She loved her children and grandchildren with her whole heart and was always there to provide them with love, comfort, compassion, her complete devotion to all their needs, and quite often ice cream or apple juice after school. Her three children were raised in a home full of love, family game nights, magical Christmas mornings, and home-cooked meals. The grandchildren knew her as their Lula. It was her middle name that she never particularly liked until her first-born grandchild started calling her that, she fell in love with the name after that and it stuck. The term mother-in-law is not suitable for the relationship she had with her daughter-in-law Linda who lost her own mother over thirty years ago. She and Linda had a special mother-daughter relationship that grew stronger over the years.
Our family is thankful to God for blessing us with such a beautiful soul to be our mother.
Carleen was the administrative assistant at the Young Men’s Business League for twenty-three years until her retirement in 1997. She developed many strong bonds with the YMBL guys over the years, and they knew they could always count on her. During fair time, she would have to work late leaving dad to cook meals for us kids. Dad was not a good cook. One memorable “Fair Night” meal he prepared consisted of pancakes and french fries, we can still recall the syrup and ketchup mixing together on our plates.
She and dad were charter members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Beaumont where she served as children’s Sunday school teacher and choir mom at various times.
She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Ruthie Robinson and her husband, Paul, of Beaumont; and Cindy Wall Carlin of Pearland; son, Greg Wall and his wife, Linda, of Beaumont; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her brothers, John Dryden Smith, Jr.; and Charles Smith.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Smith Wall; and her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to Memory Bridge, 3760 E. Cobble Creek Court, Bloomington, Indiana 47401. https://www.memorybridge.org. This loving organization endeavors to end the loneliness of people with dementia and is founded by a native Southeast Texan.
Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Wall, Ian Wall, Brian Bach, Tyler Bach and Johnny Smith. Chris Colletti, executive VP of the Young Men’s Business League, will be representing all the YMBL members who cherished Carleen.
A gathering of Mrs. Wall’s family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m. with her funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2026, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Beaumont.
In closing, the family wishes to express their love and gratitude to the staff at Rosemary House including Amy Burch, Jo Ann Jackson, Jessica Dugas, and Yolanda Davis who took such loving care of Mom, and to Best Hospice Care of Texas who provided invaluable service.

Being one of the Bunko Babes, I had the pleasure of knowing Carlene & playing in her home. She was a delight to be around. We complimented one another for our good taste as we both wore the same blouse to Bunko one particular day. May she rest in peace.
Ruthie & Greg, Becky joins me in extending our condolences to you and your family. All I can offer is that time will be your friend and soon you will start to remember all the great memories you have regarding your mother.
Prayers and thoughts with you! Need anything just a phone call away.
