Carol Ann Wrinkle
Carol Ann Wrinkle, 85, of Vidor, died Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas – Beaumont. She was born April 12, 1938, in Port Arthur, to Ollie Gosnell Foster and Willie Myles Foster.
Carol graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1956 and found the love of her life, Jimmy Wrinkle, in a church in Nederland. They both played music together with Carol playing the piano and Jimmy playing the guitar. Their voices harmonized perfectly. Carol attended Lamar University and graduated with a B.S. degree in Voice and became an elementary music teacher. She taught music for over 30 years and taught thousands of children the glorious art of music. She spent most of her teaching career at Pine Forest Elementary in Vidor, Texas. She sang alto in several operas at Lamar.
Carol was one of those people who had the rare gift of perfect pitch which meant that she could hear a note and tell you what the note was. Her professor at Lamar tested her in class because he said that no one had that ability. She proved him wrong!
She and her husband had three children who all shared her love of music. The family formed their own Bluegrass band called Shades of Blue and traveled around the country performing at Bluegrass festivals and Fiddling contests. Their daughter, Jenifer, became a professional musician and toured with such greats as Bill Anderson, Pam Tillis, Martina McBride and Reba McEntire.
Carol was famous for her funny stories and anecdotes and never met a stranger. She adored her family and supported them in everything they did. Carol came from a long line of musicians and singers who used their talents to praise the Lord. Her father, Willie, was the worship leader at Faith Tabernacle in Port Arthur. She loved to read her Bible and never missed an opportunity to witness to others about the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Carol loved spending time with her grandchildren, taking them on vacations, making fun crafts, teaching them songs and telling them stories about Jesus. She made their times together unforgettable. She was creative and fun at all times. Even when she would cheat at card games just to make the kids laugh! She lived for her children, grandchildren & great grands.
She and her husband attended Cathedral in the Pines in Beaumont for over 40 years. She volunteered her time playing the piano and the organ and participated in all of the Easter and Christmas Productions at the church.
After retirement, she and Jimmy loved visiting the mountains together, especially Estes Park, Colorado. They took their camper and went to all of the beautiful state and national parks. They enjoyed sitting around the campfire, playing their instruments and drinking coffee. They enjoyed life to the fullest and were a great example of a loving couple to everyone who knew them.
Carol is survived by her husband, James E. (Jimmy) Wrinkle; children, Sheryl Brocato and her husband, Benny, of Kountze; Reggie Wrinkle and his wife, Juanita, of Abilene; Jenifer Thompson and her husband, Scott, of Smyrna, Tennessee; grandchildren, Michael Brocato and his wife, Tara; Samuel Brocato and his wife, Aleena; Rachel Saberon and her husband, Jamesky; Laurel Becerra and her husband, Martin; Dakota Wrinkle and his wife, Cordray; Cameron Wrinkle; Cheyenne Friesen and her husband, Jayson; Maya Thompson; ten great-grandchildren; and sister, Edith Plumley, of Longview, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Myles Foster and Ollie Gosnell; brothers, Charles and Willie (Bo); and sister, Grace.
A gathering of Mrs. Wrinkle’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 29, 2023, at One City Church, 2350 Eastex Freeway, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. I’m so sorry for your loss. We will miss her here but oh, what a rejoicing we will have worshiping the Lord together for eternity. My mom was there last week. It’s hard. I’m here for you.
Oh Sheryl, I am so sorry for your loss. I fondly remember going to your house on Bruce Drive after school and listening to everyone sing! My condolences to you and your family!
Mrs. Wrinkle was my music teacher when I was in elementary school. I was one of those kids she taught to love music! I had so much fun in her class as I learned how wonderful a world with music in it is! I actually remember her being so excited for me once I decided to start band in 6th grade. She was kind, caring, and had a great laugh, but she was tough when she needed to be. lol She taught me and my 3 siblings as well. It was a blessing as I grew up to see her from time to time and visit with her. She always asked about my family. And she always bragged on her kids and grandkids. She had a sweet smile and kind eyes that always shined. I am so incredibly thankful she taught me to love music and singing. I would be remiss, if I didn’t say to her children, thank you for sharing your Mom with us all those years as she taught. She was loved and appreciated so much! I am praying for you.
I also had the privilege of working with Carol at Pine Forest Elem. She was a treasure to all of us and I know all who knew her will miss her greatly. I can still remember some of the funny stories she would tell, she was a true entertainer. She was also very kind hearted and compassionate. I remember when she and coach helped teach one of our teachers to drive, they were successful but there were also some stories to be told. You all have been blessed greatly to have her all these years, you will be in our prayers as you learn to move forward with the memories. You know that she is with her Lord, what a great comfort that must be.
So sorry for your loss????❤️????Bob and I enjoyed our visit to the home in Vidor and loved it when they visited us in Artois California ❤️????❤️She will be missed????❤️????
We are friends with the Foster family that grew up together and loved all. Sorry to hear of my passing to the other side where we will meet again. Comfort to Jimmy and family
Carol was a kind, caring, and sweet woman. I became acquainted with the family through music. Sheryl, Benny, Reggie, and I played music together throughout the years and Carol was always there supporting us. I am so sorry for her loss. I know the family will miss her immensely. Jan and I send our love and prayers.
Mrs Wrinkle was my teacher back in the 1970’s at Pine Forest Elementary School in Vidor. I remember she was always kind and wanted us to do our very best as students. Prayers Uplifted for her Family during this time.
So sorry for your loss. Will be praying for your family during this difficult time.
To the family of Mrs. Wrinkle
I worked with Mrs. Wrinkle for many years at Pine Forest Elementary. I enjoyed working with her. I always enjoyed talking music with her. She always knew what was going on in the music industry. I am very sorry to hear about her passing. May she rest in peace.
I ambroken hearted , I loved her so , rest my sweet Wrinkle , I hope to see you soon ????
Jimmy and family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I was so looking forward to visiting with her after the two of you moved to Calder Woods. We talked about you moving here several times. Carol and I taught together at Pine Forest for many years and shared so many laughs. She was so musically talented and I was not at all. I really tried to sing with the children and Carol would just smile at me. I knew what she was thinking. When she first came to PF, I introduced her to my first graders by the wrong name and she never let me forget it. Today is a sad time for me. Good bye sweet friend. My prayers are with you all.
