Carol Jeanne Slayton Luce

January 23, 1942 - May 25, 2025

Carol Jeanne Slayton Luce, lovingly known as Mimi, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at the age of 83. A proud resident of Port Acres, Texas, for over 60 years, she was born on January 23, 1942, in Pharr, Texas, to Wiley V. Slayton and Miriam Wildish.

Carol’s life was defined by courage, perseverance, and a deep devotion to her family and community. After earning her GED, she pursued higher education and proudly earned a degree in pipe fitting—becoming only the second woman hired in her field at Texaco Chemical. Later, she returned to college once more to earn a degree in Early Childhood Education. She graduated as the oldest student in her class and received a standing ovation from her peers, a moment that perfectly captured her inspiring spirit.

One of Carol’s greatest joys was her work at Wheatley Elementary. She had a gift for teaching and loved every one of her students. Over the years, many of them—now grown—would see her around town and rush to embrace the woman who had made such a lasting impression on their lives.

Carol was the proud mother of six children: Kimberly Doyle (and husband Jae Doyle), Tracy Harper, Dana Powell (and husband Hunt Powell), Jack Moles, Jamie Luce (and wife Allison Luce), and Christin Baker. She was Mimi to her cherished grandchildren: Bailey Hubbard (and husband Gideon Hubbard), Londin Moles, Jackie Moles, Chandler Moles, Cameron Doyle, Madison Luce, and Leah Baker. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Breea Hubbard and Caden Hubbard.

Carol was preceded in death by two beloved grandchildren, Colby Smith and Lexi Baker, who remain forever in the hearts of those who loved them.

Mimi will be remembered not only for her strength and determination, but for the way she lit up every room she entered. She danced whenever there was music, sang with joy (and sometimes a bit of mischief), and had a laugh that was absolutely contagious. Her presence brought comfort, her spirit brought joy, and her love lives on in every heart she touched.

Our sympathy and condolences to all the family, Carol is what I would consider a great loving woman that cared deeply for all her family and extended friends. We were extremely honored in knowing Carol for a lifetime. She always made us feel just like her own family. She was my crawfish eating buddy for years. I always enjoyed visiting with Carol at family functions throughout the years, and she could always make me laugh, she had just a huge love for everyone. I will miss you Carol and we both know you are completely healed from your pain that never stopped you from attending family functions and living life to its fullness. You are now in God’s loving arms and we will see you again one day!

A lovely lady that I was fortunate enough to grow up with our blended families, us siblings being being more like brothers and sisters. She will be missed, but I’m so grateful for those childhood memories. Love and prayers for all of y’all!
