In the summer of 1964, at the Pig Stand on 11th Street, Miss Cathy met the love of her life- Jake. It was a whirlwind romance, and they were married 2 months later!
They were the cool aunt and uncle to their nieces and nephews; taking them on many vacations and making sure their birthdays were special. They were late parents and in August of 1976, they welcomed their son, Jake III, into the world.
They were 100% supportive parents to their son, Jake. Often taking leadership in fundraising efforts for many of the clubs and activities he was involved in, like All Saints Episcopal School Carnival, West End Little League, Monsignor Kelly High School, and St. Anne’s Catholic School where their son played football.
Miss Cathy was an active member of the Spindletop Arabian Horse Club and worked tirelessly for their annual horse show. She was very involved in her son’s equestrian activities while he attended the Plum Nearly Ranch horse-riding school. These weekly Arabian horse showings and competitions were held in Houston but also all across the country and Canada.
In retirement, Miss Cathy was able to travel with her son to the country’s premier horse racing events such as The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness Stakes, and The Belmont Stakes. While Jake III studied and worked at a world-renowned restaurant in London, Miss Cathy was able to experience her son’s culinary talents! She loved New York and the many Broadway plays that she attended there.
Survivors include her son, Jake Joseph Mazzu III, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews & great- great nieces & nephews.

Its been a while since I saw Cathy but I have many memories of her in our “horsey” days. Jake at camp. She and big Jake visiting on porch here. Talking horses. Then of course the horse shows. What a kind, sweet, loving person. She will be missed.
Jake, I so enjoyed our horse show days. Especially the days I could sit in the stands with your parents and watch you and Blake compete. Cathy always had a smile on her face. She was your biggest fan. Cathy was delightful to be with. We did numerous carpools at All Saints for you and Laurie, so we had another chance to visit. Cathy was a dear friend, and I miss sharing those days with her. Heaven has received a new angel. Hugs and love to you.
Jake,
I am so very sorry for the loss of your precious mother. I became friends with her through carpooling at All Saints. I was Home and School president both at All Saints and MKCHS. Without a hesitation both Cathy and Jake always supported my requests with donations, produce and physical assistance. They donated and cooked more potatoes than I can count! Cathy and Jake’s passing has left a void in Beaumont. RIP Cathy
