Catherine Schellon Major

July 4, 1957 - June 1, 2025

Catherine Schellon Major, 67, of Silsbee died Sunday, June 1, 2025. She was born on July 4, 1957, in Groom, to Willie Mae Britten Barnett and Jack Harris Barnett.

Schellon was married for forty-five years to her high school classmate, friend, and soulmate, Del Major. They lived in many places but she especially cherished the time spent and friends made in Edmond, Oklahoma, Willis, Texas, and most recently, Silsbee, Texas.

She began an amazing career in banking in 1976 at Groom National Bank. She made many banking stops along the way and each time she left them better than she found them. She made lifelong friends in coworkers, employees, and customers at each and every stop. She ended her career as a Vice President over multiple branches in the Houston area. Her hard work and outgoing, infectious personality helped her turn a job into a successful career that she was proud of.

She was vibrant, fierce, kind, giving, selfless, and unapologetically herself at all times. If you met her, you never forgot her. She never met a stranger and considered everyone a friend. Upon meeting her, you could guarantee that she would ask your name, remember it, and ALWAYS use it. You felt loved and important when with her.

She was the life of the party! Nobody loved a good time more than she did. She loved telling jokes, telling {long} stories, playing games, going on trips, and spending time with her family and friends any way she could. She loved to talk and often wore her phone out with her beloved sisters whom she considered to be her best friends.

One of her most coveted titles was Mimzy. Many, not just her grandkids, were lucky enough to feel Mimzy’s love. One of her favorite places to be was in a chair at sporting events for her grandsons. She was their biggest fan and made sure everyone knew it! She loved being with all of her grandchildren every chance she got. Every single one was special to her. She made a point to call them every night to say their goodnight prayers with them. She was also a proud Aunt Don (and Bubs) and always kept up with all of her nieces and nephews and told anyone that would listen about them all.

The party just got a little less fun, but heaven got a whole lot brighter. We will miss her all the days of our lives.

Survivors include her husband, Del Major; children, Holly Morris and her husband, Jarrod, of Silsbee; Lacy Elliott and her husband, Scott, of Katy; and Matthew Major and his wife, Jenny, of Cypress; grandchildren, Matsyn Morris, Haegyn Morris, Hudsyn Morris, Michael Elliott, Laiken Elliott, Waverly Elliott, Atlas Elliott, Falynn Elliott, Brody Major, and Wyatt Major; siblings, Sharon Britten and her husband, Gary, of Groom; Jackie Barnett and Randi Croucher, of Perrin; Shelley Britten and her husband, David, of Groom; and Suni Morton and her husband, James, of Eastland; and several nieces and nephews that meant the world to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A gathering of Mrs. Major’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 411 Ware Ave, Groom. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Her interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Groom, under the direction of Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Arthritis Foundation, 1355 Peachtree Street NE, Suite 600, Atlanta, Georgia, 30309.

The many memories we made and the laughter we shared will forever be in our hearts just as you will always have a special place in our hearts! We always loved hearing the stories you and Del would share. We will love and miss you. Marinnia will always think of you when she wears leopard prints and may the Lava Flows flow freely in Heaven. Love, Mark and Marinnia

MIMZY – my partner in crime, my favorite goodwill shopping co- grand parent to our amazing grands,
I will miss all of the pictures and videos that we send to each other, random, silly jokes, the serious conversations, and the conversations that someone may not understand except for us! I don’t know what life is going to look like without one of my best friends. I am so grateful that God put us together 13 Or so years ago. I am going to miss you like no other.
Until I see you again, my friend!
    I love you-

It is with great sadness to hear of Schellon’s passing. We will never forget her laughter as we all stood on the top of the Twin Towers in New York, the year before the bombing! It was one of the best times ever! Prayers for Del and family.

Ahhh Schellon—-I remember playing post on Groom’s “B-team” with you and Karla—you were always kind and your smile always infectious! Though I hadn’t seen you in a long while, I enjoyed all of the thoughts you shared on Facebook and the pics of you and the grands during your adventures. Rest in peace, sweet friend!

Sweet friend. I will ALWAYS remember you. We have had many memories and talks together. Our trips to Hawaii and our delicious Christmas dinners we shared were some great memories. I just texted you on Friday never dreaming it would be our last. Enjoy your “new” world until we meet again. You will be greatly missed. Don’t cause too much trouble up there. Love you dearly.

Schellon and I went WAY back— St May’s elementary school, the nuns, Fr Carlson, then 6-12 at the public school. Made all our sacraments together. Had lots of sleep overs in those days and birthday parties. All the things…. She was always FUN…. And rooted in the importance and love for her family. She WAS family. She IS family still. Farewell, my friend. So glad you are skipping freely again. (Perhaps with a little mischievousness too)
