Cecile Garth
We said goodbye to our dear friend Cecile. She passed peacefully in her home. Cecile was a strong force. She was independent and deeply committed to fighting for human rights and equality for all. In conformity with that strength, she had a battle for her own life. A very rare and very aggressive bile duct cancer, which studies show only 8,000 people in the world a year contract. Rather than give up, Cecile fought this cancer to the very end without pity or favor, just as she fought for those in her life.
Her decades of work in Southeast Texas made a lasting impact on our community. She inspired others to stand up, speak out, and care deeply for one another. To honor her legacy, the SETX Impact Initiative created the ‘Cecile Garth Humanitarian Award’, which will be given each year to someone who continues her mission of service, democracy, and compassion.
Cecile was also recognized by local chapter of PFLAG National as the first recipient of their ‘Heart of the Community Award’, a testament to her tireless support for the LGBTQIA+ community and her belief in love and justice for everyone.
She was a sitting member on the board at the Beaumont Art League, a role that perfectly
reflected her deep love and appreciation for art. Her passion wasn’t just about collecting art pieces; it was also about celebrating and nurturing local artists.
Cecile’s spirit will live on in the work she inspired in all of us who were lucky enough to know her.
A celebration of life for Cecile will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at the Beaumont Art League, 2675 Gulf Street, Beaumont. Her cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.
In lieu of flowers Cecile wished any contributions be given to the Beaumont Art League in her memory, online donation link or call 409-347-6166.
