Charlene Stimits Butchee
Charlene Stimits Butchee, age 85, of Buna, passed away on October 5, 2025, and went home to be with the Lord, where God had prepared a place for her. Her room was ready (John 14:1-3). She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. We find comfort in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8).
Charlene was born on November 1, 1939, in Buna, to Charlie and Jessie Lee McGalin, the oldest of five sisters and one brother. Charlene and her husband, Roy Albert Stimits, married in 1957 and had two children, Monica Ann Mahfouz and Roy Alan Stimits. Charlene retired from the Buna Nursing Home as the Assistant Administrator. She attended the Chenier Business College, where she earned an Accredited Record Technician designation, and subsequently obtained her professional certification as a Registered Record Administrator through the University of Houston.
Charlene adored her three grandchildren, Christopher Mahfouz, Megan Stimits, and Eric Stimits, as well as her great-grandchild, Jace Stimits, and cherished the time she spent with them. She was a devoted member and active in the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as Grand Martha for the Grand Chapter of Texas, Deputy Grand Matron and Grand Representative of Ontario, Canada, and Worthy Matron of Evadale 1111. Charlene was a member of the First Baptist Church of Buna and enjoyed her Sunday School class.
She is survived by her children, Monica Mahfouz and husband, David, of Beaumont; Roy Stimits and his wife, Carol, of North Carolina; grandchildren, Christopher Mahfouz of Houston; Megan Stimits and her husband, John, of Tennessee; Eric Stimits and his wife, Florence, of Virgina; great-grandchild, Jace Stimits; several nieces and nephews; and sisters, Jerry Durham and her husband, Ed, of Center; and Vivian Crawford of Buna.
She is preceded in death by her late husbands, Roy Albert Stimits, with whom she was married for forty-five years, and Wayne Daniel Butchee, with whom she was married for nineteen years; her parents; sisters, Erma Matlock and Sherry Kellum; and her brother, Charles Henry McGalin.
A gathering of Charlene’s family and friends will be 2:00 p.m., with her funeral service at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will be at 3:00 p.m. with Dr David Mahfouz officiating. Her interment will follow at Morse Cemetery, Buna, Texas.
