Charles Andrew McGaha

Charles Andrew McGaha, 86, of Lubbock, Texas, left this life on Tuesday, May 22, 2023.

Charles “Chuck” was born on October 31, 1936, in Bellevue, Texas, to Odie Marshall and Clara Bell McGaha. Raised in the oil patch of West Texas, and following High School in Jal New Mexico, he graduated from Texas Western College (now UTEP) majoring in journalism, and mass communications. Comfortable in the public spotlight, he worked for many years in radio, television, and newspapers across Texas and New Mexico. Chuck had five children from his first marriage who he adored and loved: Terry (deceased), Cindy, Steve, Sheri, and Lori.

Chuck married Sheila Hamms in 1980, and transitioned careers into adult probation for the State of Texas, retiring in Houston, Texas.

In addition to Sheila, and his kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren came to be the real focus of his life. In fact, Chuck and Sheila documented everyone and everything with thousands of photos, and cards, and clippings of every occasion.

He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Sheila McGaha, whom he adoringly called, “Sheila Mae;” son, Steve McGaha and his wife, Karon of Winnie; daughter, Sheri Moralez and her husband, George of Lubbock; daughters, Lori and Cindy, both of Lubbock; as well as seven grandchildren, Ashley, Zachary, Erica, John Mitchell, Matthew, Summer and Robby; and four great-grandchildren, Rainer, Charlie, Emily, and Journey.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry Michael McGaha; and stepson, Leonard Sorsveen.

A gathering of Mr. McGaha’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with his funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2023, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
