Charles Bennett Gilpin
Charles Bennett Gilpin, 83, of Winnie, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 leaving behind a legacy of hard work, devotion, and deep love for his family. He was born to Lucille Lowe Gilpin and Gordon Bennett Gilpin on September 7, 1942 in Livingston, TX.
Charles graduated from High Island High School, where his journey into adulthood began. Not long after, fate stepped in at the Glen Theater in Winnie, TX where he met the love of his life, Peggie Gilpin. Their love story blossomed into a beautiful marriage that lasted 62 wonderful years a true testament to commitment, loyalty, and enduring love. Peggie was his greatest blessing and lifelong partner, and together they built a beautiful life.
He began his career at Smith Service Company, where he discovered his calling as a lineman. Determined to build a strong future, Charles attended school at the IBEW Hall to further his training. In 1969, he began working for Mobil Oil, dedicating 26 years of service before retiring at the age of 56. Never one to sit still, he went back to work, working for The Newtron Group for another 12 years, finally retiring at the age of 70.
Charles was a man who loved working with his hands. Over the years, he built his own boat to go shrimping, showcasing both his skill and his adventurous spirit. He had a passion for restoring cars, bringing old classics back to life. Of all the vehicles he restored, his favorite was his beloved 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air a car that reflected his pride, dedication, and love for timeless craftsmanship.
After retiring, he found even more time to enjoy one of the things he loved most playing his guitar. Whether strumming quietly at home or simply passing the time with a favorite tune, music became one of his greatest joys in his later years.
Charles will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his talents, his quiet strength, and most importantly, his unwavering love for Peggie and his family. His life was one of devotion to his wife, his work, and the things he loved most.
