Charlotte Tully Hidalgo

February 27, 1943 - August 18, 2025

Charlotte Tully Hidalgo went to be with her loved ones on Monday, August 18, 2025. A lifelong resident of Fannett, Texas, she was born at Hotel Dieu in Beaumont on February 27, 1943.

Charlotte grew up and spent her life until marriage in the same house, a house still in the family.

She always loved babies and could usually be found toting one on her hip at any gathering of family or friends. She was the babysitter of choice for several families in Fannett while growing up.

After school, she married her high school favorite, R.A. Hidalgo, in 1962, a marriage that survived until her death. They spent all those years in a house just ½ mile from the house where she grew up.

Together they had three children, Keith, Lori, and Kevin. She is also survived by six grandchildren (all of them spending almost every weekday at her house typically year-round), Casey Brittain of Hamshire, Kayla Crites, Spencer Garcia, and Haley Hidalgo, all of Fannett, and Anni Hidalgo and Alex Hidalgo, both of Beaumont; one great-grandchild, Parker Crites of Fannett; and two brothers, Roy Allen Tully of Winnie and Edward McCarty Tully of Fannett.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, L.W. Tully and Willie Lee Tully; two brothers, W.L. “Pug” Tully and Loye Gene Tully; and one great-grandchild, Brynn Crites.

Over the years, she was a bookkeeper for various entities but found the greatest enjoyment working at St. Mary Parish where she kept the books for many years. She also enjoyed all the kids associated with St. Mary’s education programs and spent much time in volunteer work at St. Mary, whether in Catholic Daughters, Altar Society, or as a Eucharistic Minister she stayed involved in student activities like Vacation Bible School and Christmas programs.

Once she finally retired for good, she volunteered to take on reorganizing the parish library. She took a corner that had been allocated and built a very organized parish library and rebuilt it after Hurricane Ike had destroyed it. She personally saved and cared for the entire library on her own until a new library was completed two years later.

Charlotte grew up about 5 miles from St. Mary Church and spent her life involved in Fannett, enjoying her life right where she started.

I would like to say a special thank you to our daughter-in-law, Kleo Hidalgo, our son-in-law, Shane Hebert, and our grandson-in-law, Tyler Crites.  Their hard work and sacrifice helped us to provide excellent care for Charlotte in her last months of life.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, 9894 Gilbert Road, Beaumont, Texas 77705.

R.A. and family. My Mama spoke fondly of both of you. My Daddy worked with your Dad for years and I graduated with Greg. I believe Myra was closest in age to Charlotte. Charlotte truly shared her love for Christ through her service to her church.

What a great loss to all of us that are Charlotte’s friends and especially her family.
She was a marvel in that she was involved with her children along with mine and many other of our children, at school, always making things on holidays and bring goodies to different functions. We will always remember Charlotte and her kind nature and her friendship.
    Rest in peace sweet Charlotte.

    R.A., Keith, Lori, and Kevin…
Charlotte and I were best friends from the first day we met in kindergarten at the old Fannett School throughout our schooling when we graduated in 1961 as the last class to graduate Fannett High School. (Hamshire and Fannett Schools were consolidated the following year.) After graduation we followed different paths but remained friends for life.
Charlotte was always a person to think of others first, and she shared her time and love very well. Whenever we visited, we could always pick up where we left off. I will truly miss my dear friend Charlotte, knowing she is now dwelling with our Savior Jesus Christ. Rest in Peace, my friend Charlotte.
