Cindy Ligon Vaughn

October 12, 1950 - September 23, 2024

Cindy Ligon Vaughn, 73, of Sulphur, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024. She was born on October 12, 1950, in Fort Worth, Texas, to John R. and Johnnie Mae Ligon.

Cindy was a dedicated dance teacher for over 45 years and the owner of Cindy’s School of Dance. She began her teaching journey in Independence, Kansas, where she took over her dance teacher’s studio during her junior year of high school when her instructor moved away. In the early 1970s, she relocated to Beaumont, Texas, where her dance school was based in Vidor. In the early 1980s, she moved to Louisiana, opening a dance school in Sulphur and later an additional studio in Lake Charles. After closing those schools, she continued to share her passion for dance at other local studios and in her home studio. A lover of dance—especially tap—Ms. Cindy inspired countless students over the years, teaching them how to truly “shine.”

In her younger years, she enjoyed participating in the Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras, was a member of the Oklahoma Dance Masters Association, attended various dance conventions, and loved boating.

Cindy cherished her adopted puppies and her bird, Bombersay, who was known for knowing a dance move or two.

She is survived by her daughter, Chelle Blanchard, and her husband, Chad, of Fannett; her grandchildren, Beau Blanchard and Katie Blanchard, both of Fannett; and her brother, Barclay Ligon, and his wife, Linda, of Houghton, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial contributions for Ms. Vaughn may be made to The Humane Society of Southeast Texas, 2050 Spindletop Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77705.

A gathering of Ms. Vaughn’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.
