Clayton W. Childs

February 5, 1931 - January 23, 2021

Clayton Winfred Childs, 89, of Vidor, died Saturday, January 23, 2021. He was born February 5, 1931, in Barnes, to Lois Mae Ables Childs and Sidney Vessie Childs.

Clayton was a United States Air Force veteran. He retired from Gulf Oil after thirty-two years of dedicated service in the accounting department. Clayton was also an exceptional mechanic and a talented carpenter. In fact, most of his family members and friends have at least one piece of woodwork that he created and gifted to them. Above all else, he adored his grandchildren. Clayton will be remembered for having a knack for keeping his family and friends grounded.

Survivors include his children, Pam Bell and husband, Jeff, of Vidor; Garry Childs and wife, Ellyn, of Nederland; and Jeff Childs and wife, Jana, of LaPorte; grandchildren, Amanda Lanier and husband, Matt; Aaron Childs and wife, Leah; Tyler Childs and wife, Jacky; Grant Childs; Meredith Childs; Logan Childs and wife, Emily; and Sara Roxby and husband, Kyle; great-grandchildren, Cayden Lanier; Frankie Childs; Gus Childs; Madeleine Roxby; and Evelyn Roxby; and sister, Doris Lunsford, of Humble; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by her parents, Lois and Sidney Childs; wife, Ernestine Childs; and brothers, Harold Childs; Alton Childs; Bill Childs; and Jerry Childs.

A gathering of Mr. Childs’ family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 1, 2021, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at Broussard’s, Nederland. His graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., at Fairview Cemetery, 6296 TX-21, Nacogdoches, the same day.
