Clyde “Lee” Oleson, Jr.

Clyde “Lee” Oleson, Jr., 84, of Nederland, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 15, 2021, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont, after being treated for Alzheimer’s disease. God mercifully took him home and ended that journey. He was born May 10, 1937, in Baytown, to Francis “Thelma” Sammons Oleson and Clyde Lee Oleson, Sr.

Lee attended Baytown schools and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1955. He went on to join the Corp of Cadettes and attend his beloved A & M University. Lee graduated with his bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1961. He later returned to school at Sam Houston State University where he earned his master’s in chemistry with minors in math and physics in 1966.

In 1961, he started a teaching position in Somerset where he met his wife, Patsy Culp. They were married on May 26, 1961 and celebrated sixty years together this past May.

After earning his master’s degree, he relocated to Nederland to work as a chemist for Unocal Refinery where he retired from in 1995. After he retired, he and Patsy bought an RV and enjoyed many years of traveling.

Lee was a deacon at Central Baptist Church, Port Neches and was also the treasurer for over twenty years. He and Patsy loved their church family and faithfully served the Lord for many years.

Lee loved the outdoors and enjoyed traveling, hunting, and fishing. He especially liked to watch Aggie’s football and cherished the time he got to spend with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Oleson, of Nederland; children, Monica Clausen and husband, Hank; Judy Tippin and husband, Merle; and Clyde Oleson III and wife, Christine; grandchildren, Chris Clausen and wife, Robyn; Jessica Clausen; Hayley Clausen and fiancé, Eric Duke; Meagan Oleson and fiancé, Cyle Hubbard; and Peyton Lee Oleson; and four great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Clyde Oleson; and sisters, Jane Fitzpatrick and Nelda Oleson.

A gathering of Mr. Oleson’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with his funeral service at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Central Baptist Church, 903 Ave B, Port Neches. His interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12^th Street, Nederland.
