Cynthia Ann Giglio
Cynthia Ann Giglio, of Beaumont, Texas, died Friday July 23, 2021, at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. Cindy was born on October 27, 1949, in Beaumont, Texas, to Milton Lopez, Sr. and Ann Broussard Lopez. She graduated from Monsignor Kelly High School in 1967 and earned a degree in Psychology from Lamar University in 1971. She and Sam were married that same year on September 25, 1971 and began their family.
Cindy was devoted to her family and gave her time and attention freely to her husband and children. She was the ideal wife, mother, and grandmother, supportive, kind, gentle, strong, loving and accepting. Her love of cooking was a gift to almost everyone she encountered. She loved everything about feeding people and shared her gift with so many throughout her life. Sunday night family dinners were a staple in her home. And she always hosted and catered holidays, birthdays, and Dallas Cowboys games during football season. She also had a passion for good music. She enjoyed a variety of styles and loved playing it loud and singing and dancing along. She is known by many to be the parent who took the kids to the rock concerts. And she always had music playing in her classroom. Cindy, like her mother, also had a strong love for the beach and the sound of the waves. She shared this love with her family and spent many summers and weekends at the beach with them. Cindy passed this love of the beach down to her children, who all continue to love going to the beach and the peace that it brings.
Cindy was a true and devout servant of God. She had an extremely close relationship with the Blessed Mother and her guardian angel, Gertrude. She attended mass regularly at the many parishes in Beaumont, TX and when out of town, attended masses at many other parishes over the years. She served the Lord fervently in her native Catholic Diocese of Beaumont all her life. Cindy volunteered her time, gifts, and spirit whole heartedly to the service of the Lord. She was a lector and Eucharistic minister, counseled in marriage preparation classes, and cooked for countless events and for the Diocesan Youth Camp. She was a certified Catechist. She worked at the Newman Center, the Catholic Student Center at Lamar University, and taught in the Catholic school system for over ten years.
Cindy taught at Monsignor Kelly High School from 1992 to 2001. She enjoyed a range of subjects including Religion, Psychology, and Journalism. And she devoted her time to sponsoring the Anchor Club, Newspaper, and Yearbook for many years. Teaching was one of the great loves of Cindy’s life. She devoted herself to making genuine connections with her students. She was considered a friend, counselor, or guide to hundreds of these students over the years, many of whom she continued to keep up with regularly throughout the years.
Cindy’s love for Camp Niwana began in the 1950s. She was a Bluebird and sold enough Camp Fire Candy to earn a week of summer camp in 1956. When her daughter Delia was old enough to go to camp, Cindy signed her up at Camp Niwana in the 1980s. Delia, Ellie, and Netty all attended Camp Niwana as campers, and continued working there every summer until the present day. Cindy joined the Camp Fire Board of Directors and has held a position on the Executive Board for over 30 years. She became the Head Cook at Camp Niwana in 1996 and has served until she became sick this summer. Cindy leaves behind a great love and devotion to Camp Niwana.
Beyond all else, Cindy was completely devoted to her family and loved them unconditionally. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Survivors include husband, Dr. Sam C. Giglio, Jr.; children, Damian Giglio and his wife, Nicole; Delia Giglio; Ellie Giglio; and Netty Giglio; grandchildren, Grant, Luke, Asher, and Scarlett; sister, Peggy Knoblock and her husband, Rick; brother, Milton Lopez, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Ann Palermo and her husband, Johnnie and Regina Giglio; nieces, Ashley Nardiello and her husband, Chris; Noel Kirby and her husband, Chad; and Courtney LaBauve and her husband, Clent; many great-nieces and great-nephews and life-long friend and honorary sister, Cecilia Ellis. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Stephen James Lopez; brother, James Gerard Lopez; and niece, Katrina Gonzales.
A Rosary for Mrs. Giglio will be recited at 10:30 a.m., with her Memorial Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 29, 2021, at Our Lady of The Assumption Catholic Church, 4445 Avenue A, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

Cindy and I became friends when we worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Conpany during college.. Although we went different directions, I have always counted her as a great lifelong friend. So thankful that last year we got together with Linda LaRocca for lunch just before the pandemic. She was a treasure to all that knew her and will be missed ever day! ❤️

Mrs. Giglio was an amazing teacher and counselor. She was more than awesome. She always made the best of any awkward situation (especially with us teenage boys). Anyone can agree with me - if you had her as a teacher, you actually looked forward to her lessons! I still can’t believe she has been taken from us. I’ll always have many fond memories of her in. She always made me laugh with her quirks and her awesome sense of humor. And let’s not forget how kind and understanding she was. She will be missed dearly.

Mrs Giglio was one of the most approachable people I’ve met, and definitely one of the coolest moms. I remember her eating lunch with her boys at Kelly High School and everyone stopping by just because she was there. We shared a nanny growing up, Mrs Garcia and she always spoke of the Giglio family as precious, devout Catholics. We loved the bond. I was truly saddened to her of your passing. To those who don't know I would call you affection, "Miss Gig;" I don't know if others used this name of endearment. From what I know and remember you were a great mother and teacher. The class I was privileged to have taught by you was the "Marriage Class" (or whatever it was officially called through MKCHS. It was well known as the class that had allowed us to carry babies (dolls) around school and home and as a responsibility for so many weeks or months. In this same class, typically girls and boys too each had a time to wear an "empathy belly" (or whatever it's called to appear pregnant for a whole school day). Somehow, don't ask how, I don't remember, but I was excused of wearing it. But as for my "kids" and family dynamic assignment, I still remember I was said to have been a single dad of two (a girl and a boy). For some reason I still remember those "kid" names too. If you were to ask me. As mentioned, I do remember your love of music too, especially in the classroom. Maybe you are part of the reason why I still like 80s rock: Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, etc. Good stuff. Well, Miss Gig, you will be missed. But please know you have left behind a great loving and wonderful family. I hope and pray to follow you down not "Highway to Hell," but more like up on the "Stairway to Heaven." Mrs. Cindy will be so very missed! I loved seeing her every summer at Camp Niwana! She was the BEST cook and I loved her food so much!!! I cannot imagine camp without her. That kitchen/ dinning room should be renamed the Mrs. Cindy’s Kitchen.

Mrs. Giglio was my teacher at Kelly for psychology and religion classes. She was also my Anchor Club sponsor. She was always smiling and her joy was infectious. Being in her classroom felt more like a home than a school. She will be sorely missed.

Mrs. Gig was the kind of mom you could let your guard down around. I spilled my guts instantly, and she was always there with sound advice! The Giglio’s home was my safe place for many years, she cared for me, fed me, and us girls were always treated like her own! The impact she made on my adult life was profound, and even though I never got to tell her, she is the mom I am still striving to be! A mom her kids can turn to, a loving hug when you need it most, and the person who never judges you no matter your faults! Love you Giglio’s praying everyday!
