Dana Carole Stough Outlaw
Dana Carole Stough Outlaw passed away on September 5, 2021, in Beaumont, Texas. She was born to Charlene Temple Stough and Marcus Dowling Stough in Port Arthur, Texas on May 21, 1952. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, and later graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Following the receipt of her nursing degree she lived the remainder of her life serving others in various healthcare settings as well as in her own practice.
In addition to her unending focus on helping others, Dana was the consummate free spirit. From art, music, traveling, dance, and tai chi to spending time at the beach, the scope of her interests was limitless. Dana was a prolific artist, and her big brown eyes could precisely capture the eyes of any of her subjects, human and animals alike. “Day-Day” found endless delight in crocheting or felting small animals for her grandchildren, and she loved to send a painting or pastel to a grieving friend who had lost a loved one or pet. Her zest for life was profound and she was perpetually in awe of God’s beautiful creations surrounding her.
Her love for God, her family, her friends, and for humanity itself was fierce, and she lived to the end as a most generous and loving soul. St. Paul wrote in his first letter to the Corinthians that “faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” Dana had a strong faith and never lost hope even in the most dire of circumstances. However, her greatest legacy is the abundance of love she shared with the world, never ceasing to give the entirety of herself. Every space became brighter with her presence.
Dana is preceded in death by her father and survived by her mother and husband Joseph Whitfield “Whit” Outlaw; children Malorie Gist Leman and husband Thomas, Ryan Gist and fiancé Brittany King; Lawrence “Lance” Gist; Patrick Outlaw, Michael Outlaw and wife Kimberly and Kate Outlaw; and grandchildren Carolina, Mally and Lila Leman, Caitlin and Jamie Gist, Landes and Waylon Outlaw and Ellie Throop. She is also survived by her sister Janet Wine and husband Floyd of Arlington, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Art Studio Inc., 720 Franklin Street, Beaumont, Texas 77701.
A memorial service for Mrs. Outlaw will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 N. Major Drive, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont, with her burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.

I feel so fortunate to have known “Aunt Dana” when I was a young girl. She was so kind, fun and loving to all of us. I still have a sweet bunny that she painted for me over 40 years ago; she truly captured the beauty of God’s creation as a talented artist. I pray that the joy and excitement she had for life will continue in the lives of those who were blessed to have known her.
My deepest sympathy goes out to Dana’s family. I am so thankful to have known Dana and experienced her shared joy and love of humanity. Randy and I cherished the portrait of our beloved pet Vixie that Dana expertly depicted and presented to us. Dana would send me pictures of the beautiful flowers Whit gave her regularly when she noticed I had one on my computer screen saver. So thoughtful……I shall miss her deeply.

There are no words to express the vacuum I feel. She was a part of my everyday life. God hold her tight and give her beautiful peace in heaven as she continues to bless us all with the memories we cherish of her life on this earth.

The world is a sadder place with the loss of our sweet and loving friend. Dana could make anyone’s day brighter, just by being in it. Her compassion and love for others was enormous and her kindness knew no limits. Her life was joyous and her memory is a blessing to all of us. I send deepest sympathy to her family, especially her daughter, Malorie, whom I remember fondly from her days in children’s theatre and Patrick who was special to our family for many years.
The loss of this sweet lady has left a hole in our hearts. Dana had a heart of gold that loved the Lord and her undying spirit for Whit . It has been several years since we have visited with Dana but she will always hold a special place in our heart. RIP sweet angel, you are missed by so many that loved you.

God has taken home one of his great followers and powerful prayer warriors. Anyone who knew Dana for any length of time loved her. I can be counted in that group. She was truly one of a kind and will certainly be missed . My sincere sympathies go out to her entire family and all of her close friends. Although nothing can fill the void she’s left in our lives , we can take comfort in knowing she’s in a better place and free from any disease or discomfort.
